Well, Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend, and there is nothing I like more on a cold night than a good movie. What movies inspire you?

x2.

Big Trouble in Little China (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utKqO0kdLqc) inspires me to extemporaneously generate cool monologues while eating a ham sandwich and driving a big rig.

Fargo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJUvPZI3Cr4) inspires me to annoy other people in the car by constantly asking "where's pancakes house?".

And last (but not least), Napoleon Dynamite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlmIYHUxVA4) inspires me to study Rex-Kwon-Do.

I used to have fun quoting lines from that show....let's see....how about

This is Jack Burton on the Pork Chop express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listening out there. ... Like I told my last wife, I said honey, I never drive faster than I can see...besides, it's all in the reflexes.

Jack, what!...2000 years and he can't find one broad to fit the bill?...C'mon, Dave, you must be doing something seriously wrong!

...loses alot just reading it, you have to say it with the Jack Burton flair. :)

Rather than whole movies, I'm inspired mainly from scenes. For example, a movie might be mostly boring except for maybe one cool scene, or it could have lots of inspiring moments. I used to collect scenes as sort of a hobby. Like the scene where Eli Wallach meets the hired guns in the magnificent seven, or some of the kill bill scenes, also comedy, whatever. Even tv shows have some great scenes.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...:whistle:

Absolutely brilliant...

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?"

Then it was quiet again. My attorney had taken his shirt off and was pouring beer on his chest, to facilitate the tanning process. "What the hell are you yelling about?" he muttered, staring up at the sun with his eyes closed and covered with wraparound Spanish sunglasses. "Never mind," I said. "It's your turn to drive." I hit the brakes and aimed the Great Red Shark toward the shoulder of the highway. No point mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough.

it was only yesterday that i got to see this film. i asked my bf in advance if it was depressing, and he said 'it has a happy end'. half way through i felt like there was no way this film could have a happy end. and, does it really? so heavy. it's interesting that someone thinks it's 'inspirational', so, i'm curious, why?:)

Didn't you finish watching it?

It's one of the most powerful messages of hope that's ever been depicted in a story.

i almost didn't. with all my depression due to poor weather i didn't really feel like it. hope, yeah, yeah, happy end, a chance for a new start, come on, what about all the memories and nightmares? it's like the end is too light compared to the rest of the film. and yes, it's one of the best films i've ever seen, but still, i don't find it inspirational if you know what i mean:)

It's difficult to answer without using the phrase "triumph of the human spirit"

It's about hope, salvation. The whole thing is almost an allegory of the story of Jesus. Hell, he even crawls out of the pipe and throws his arms out so he looks like he's on a crucifix... My dad (a church minister) always goes on about this bit being symbolic of the river washing away his sins yada yada... and of course the ending is him reaching his own personal heaven.

i like the interpretation. i guess the film just didn't touch me the way it was meant to perhaps. what i'm trying to say is that i understand the message of hope, but it didn't make me feel it really. therefore, it didn't inspire me. and even though i'm curious to know what others read in the story, i'm more interested to find out how they felt afterwards.

IMHO it's 'cause he spends half of the movie miserable because of how unfair the situation is, then the other half accepting that it's not fair and making the best of a horrendous situation, then the climax getting over on everyone who made life hell for himself and others.

That was one I was going to list...it is one of my wife and I's favorite movies that we both enjoy.

My dad (a church minister) always goes on about this bit being symbolic of the river washing away his sins yada yada... and of course the ending is him reaching his own personal heaven.

*off topic*Does your dad know of a guy in the UK named Matt Redman? He is a music artist in the church circle over there?

As far as movies I consider inspiring:

1. Band of Brothers
2. 300

There are a ton more that just are not coming to mind right away...

This is to date still my all time favourite movie. I have seen it so many times. And enjoy it everytime, but I don't feel the same way after watching it everytime though, but alot of the time I do.

I agree with what everyone else said. But this movie leaves me feeling like if I just do a little bit everyday I will eventually escape the 'personal hole' I am in. But if I do nothing my circumstances will never change.

I see a more of a reference to Viktor Frankl. Obviously you cannot compare the treatment in the movie to that of the conectration camps, but he did refuse to let imprisonment dictate his life. He had a goal.

It's been a while since I have seen it but wasn't him being miserable just a front because he had to have been working on that project of his for a LONG time.

Zulu. The Dam Busters. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Each is about people who won't or can't give in or give up.

As for Zulu - I was there all those years ago at Rorke's Drift. Or so it seems, having watched it umpteen times.
