I read the other day that 2 out of every 3 people in the US are unhappy in their current jobs.

I have been doing the same thing for nearly 10years now and am starting to think is this all there is?

I work for a large financial firm as an advisor to brokers/financial planers. Sometimes I think to myself how in the hell do these morons get anyone to give them a nickel to invest. I would say that in 10yrs it would be a conservative estimate to state that 95%+ of financial planers/brokers are oblivious. Some of the questions these idiots ask me after they have got your money and invested it are quite scary.

I just bought and am in the process of reading the book “what color is your parachute” I don’t feel that I am happy anymore in what I do but then again I can’t help but think what else can I do without taking a drastic reduction in income and lifestyle?

Just curious if anyone has made a career change and if so what steps did you take - are you happy now? Trying to figure out what I would be happy doing seems a difficult task to say the least!

Any suggestions are welcomed :D

If there's another skill or interest you have that is capable of generating an equivalent income then I recommend registering with a couple of temporary/placement firms. You can find a temporary job that pays what you need it to without starting in that career path from scratch.

From there, you have paycheck-proof that you're worth $X and can solicit jobs in that field at a much higher level than going in with zero experience. It makes lateral moves much less disruptive.

I changed my career in the manner described above, though not by choice (I was RIF'ed). I love my current job and am excited about the career prospects ahead. The company is great and, apart from the stretch of sporadic unemployment between the previous career and this one, there was no impact on my salary.

Good luck! :gl:

There's nothing wrong with wanting more job satisfaction. Just hunt around until you figure out what you'd like to do, and move toward that methodically. If you have a good plan, it doesn't have to be a gut-wrenching bank-draining process.
