Well, a while ago I joined thse forums and tried to stick to a healthy life-style, sadly that didn't go to plan. However I am back to give it another go. The biggest problem I need to overcome is my diet, which is in a word, horrible. I am trying to make some changes to it. Sadly I'm 17 and have no access to a gym near me anymore, so right now I think I should focus on my diet. This is what I've changed my diet to:

Meal 1: Cereal(Honey cornflakes+semi-skimmed milk)

Meal 2: Baguette(normally gammon with some salad, white bread and a bit of butter) or soup(lentil) and a roll(white).

Meal 3:Sandwich(either chicken or ham on wholemeal bread)

Meal 4: 75g Brown Rice.

Meal 5:Omelette( either ham or chicken with onions, mushrooms or whatever veg I can find).

I haven't counted the calories for these but it looks like it might not be enough. Right now I don't care about losing weight or anything, I'd rather just eat at maintenance and get a feel of what it's like to eat like that. I know meal 2 doesn't look that good but that's because I go to school and get given government allowance(ie I am given a set amount by the school to pay for my lunch) so I will need to get it out of there. All critique is encouraged please. I don't have scales or anything like that, but I am about 5 foot 11 and nearly 12 stone I would guess. I'll try and get more details later.

First off, welcome back and best of luck with the new diet.

Getting your eating habits right now will be important groundwork for future fitness goals.

Firstly while I too am a sucker for my morning cereal, most contain excessive sugar - like the honey based one you described.

Also at 5ft 11' and 12 stone I don't thnk semi-skimmed milk is a necessity. My estimation may be wrong but I think you shouldn't worry about getting too many calories for your weight and height.

I don't think your getting enough protein and fats either as meals 1-4 are all pretty much carb focused.

Finally I would suggest getting rid of the white bread and roll in meal for your second meal and replacing them with fruit and veg of some kind - both of which are notable absentees from your diet.

Hope this was of some help

I wont comment on total calories, but I can already tell your choices are going to harm rather than help you. Lose the white bread and any other processed foods (like the cereal). You need to eat more natural, high fiber foods and minimize the sugars. White bread should become brown, reading the labels to ensure it is not enriched and contains little to no added sugar. Cereal should be a high fiber, little to no sugar variety. If you like oatmeal, eat it. If not, there are other options. Go for chicken breast instead of lunchmeat and eat that with brown rice. As mentioned, throw in some vegetables or fruit like apples. Try to include a protein with every meal/snack.

Okay I gave this a quick review and have this.

Meal 1: Boiled egg and 1 slice wheat bread

Meal 2:Lentil soup + fruit(grapes most likely)

Meal 3:Brown rice + chicken breast(can anyone suggest some good veg to go with this)

Meal 4: Omelette(2 eggs +semiskimmed milk + assorted veg)

Meal 5: some fruit(banana's or apple)

Looking better?

Why does it appear you're trying to eat so light?

Is that first meal one egg and one slice of bread?

I'd like to hear more about your diet from the recent past which you describe as "horrible".

Lots of fizzy juice, chocolate, sweet, crisps, sometimes takeaway's 2-3 times a week. Just all-round horrible way to eat. Hmm I didn't think I was eating too light, guess I need to think of a way to up the calories then.

Your assumption that you need a gym to workout is WRONG.

Frankly it sounds like an excuse.

Thank you very much for that link, sorry if I came across as making excuses in my initial post.
