I have been wanting some weight lifting shoes, with the raised heels, for doing Olympic lifts. I have been experimenting to see if they would be worth the investment by doing some lifts in the closest thing that I have, dress shoes.

I do squats, cleans and overhead squats in them. They really do work quite well. They dont give any side support but the raised heel makes a huge difference, especially in the overhead squat.

I tried my entire shoe selection on these same exercises and the ones that made the most improvement were the dress shoes.I am certainky going to invest in some proper shoes.

I used to squat and deadlift in dress shoes years ago. I don't know of any brand that has same inclination as weightlifting shoes, as it would be awkward and possibly bad for your joints to walk around in them all the time, but dress shoes are good because they tend to have a very stiff, very flat sole, and little padding.

Some of the "old timers" used to wear dress shoes to lift.

They were bought for me for Christmas. You can find them at http://www.dynamic-eleiko.com/ for $150 though.
