Has anyone ordered big items directly from PowerTec?
http://www.powertecfitness.com
If so, has your delivery experience been favorable?
Side note: when I go to their 'shop online' site, there must be some java script taking away my IE menu, address bar, and status bar. Does anyone know a shortcut key for viewing the address bar & status bar? I want to make I'm getting an SSL connection. The fact that they take these items away makes me suspicious.

I don't know anything about the site itself...
But opening a new window without those toolbars is just a simple javascrip tthing.

Duh! I should have thought of that. :p Thanks!
It appears that the site will become encrypted after you enter your name & address information

You could try just opening a new browser window (it works on my computer at least).
On my computer (Win XP, IE) using the menus "File" "New" "Window" will open a new window and use the URL of the previous window as its initial contents -- except it opens it up in my default IE configuration (all the useful buttons and address bar at the top and the status bar along the bottom).
The keyboard shortcut for this in windows is CTRL-N (open a new browser window).
Direct from Powertec may not be the cheapest way to get their stuff (since they try not to undercut their resellers).
I just purchased a Powertec Power Rack from Omnifitness (they seem to be a large chain of retail stores). They didn't have the rack in their warehouse, so they ordered it direct from Powertec to be delivered to their store.
They charged me $250 + NY sales tax so the total came to $271.88.
Yes, I was VERY VERY happy about that.
It took about 3 weeks to get it. I don't know how long it took between me placing the order in the store and the store manager actually calling Powertec to order it.
It looks like (from the labels on the box) that Powertec shipped it directly from the Powertec warehouse to their store. It's probably the same packaging that Powertec would send to a direct consumer (sturdy boxes + several plastic bands around the box to keep it closed).
Last I checked the Powertec site they charged cost plus shipping.
Many online sites offer a better deal (cost with free shipping or even better).
I suspect a lot of the online stores (and even retailers) just place an order with Powertec based on your order and have it drop-shipped directly to you from Powertec anyway. However, the cost to you can be less (since like I said, I doubt Powertec wants to be seen as undercutting their resellers).
You probably should always try some local fitness stores & see what they can order for you and how much they would charge for it. You never know.
Hope this helps.
For reference, Omnifitness seems to be located in the general Northeast part of the US. Their store locator is here:

Thanks much MYOB!. Very good information. I'll check out omnifitness. I did try a local retailer, who immediately tried to get me into something else (that they had in stock). I refused, then got an email from them with some decent prices on PowerTec.
