Yeah, that was badass. The guy didn't eat for a week and dropped 30 pounds, broke 3 ribs on his opening lift, passed out twice, and still kicked ass in the competition! Gotta say, I'm impressed.

Another interesting thing: His bench pressing looks quite a bit different from that of most powerlifters I've seen. Aside from the fact that he isn't benching in a shirt, his arch was virtually non-existent. His ROM was pretty big, which makes those numbers he was pressing even more impressive.

I don't think so. From the training logs that I've seen, powerlifters seem to train for pretty "normal" stretches of time these days. Keep in mind this was the 70's. If you look at the way most bodybuilders of the time trained, it was also really high volume with long training sessions.

I have to say that I don't think a guy that decided to drop 30 pounds in a week is a guy to look to for training tips.
