Was interested in getting a better rig for Benching than the one I have now.

The GPR-370 looks pretty good....but..

It appears to be a wide Olympic-weight-based rig.

I don't want use an Olympic bar or weights. I want to use the weights and bar I already have which is standard 1".

So I figured I'd get it and take the cross-support into the shop, buck the required amount off it, weld another end-plate on, re-drill it for bolts and that should take care of the width problem.

Of course that would void the warranty..but I can live with that.

Options:- Anybody know of a bench that does what that one does but comes in a 1'' bar configuration to start with?

I'm in the same boat

all my plates are 1", and my squat rack and bench are olympic width

I solved it by getting acouple of 7' lengths of 1" dia SAE 8620HT rod and some clamp on collars and making my own bars

they're far better than the mild steel ones they generally sell you with 1" plates, & I don't feel like the bars about to fold in half when I'm doing a 500 pound squat:tu:

I have that rack--or the previous version of it, which was white in color. I use a standard bar and plates with it. The only thing "Olympic" about it is the storage posts that hold extra plates. Standard bars come in several different widths (as do Olympic bars, actually), and I have no trouble at all with this rack. How long is the standard bar you are now using? And where are the inside collars? That is the crucial consideration, to make sure they are outside the gunrack.

The rack is great. The feature of being able to "walk" the bar up and down without removing plates really saves time.

If it helps, I can measure my bar and let you know what length works.

Thanks for the help guys..:tucool:

Yeah...after I posted this I realized that maybe a 7foot standard bar might work...but I only have 6foots on hand and they are 45" between the collars. Didn't know how wide a 7foot was between same.

The specs said 48" wide for the Multi-press rig from side to side.

And I actually have made up bars before...gone to the metal supplier and had them cut me a bar or two and added collars.

Forgot all about that...but as I was driving into work today the thought came back into my head.

Well..if a 7foot bar is o.k. I'll use that. If not I'll get bar made up.

Would appreciate you telling me what size bar length works for you, Jim D.

Thanks again ...:)

I use a 6 ft. bar. It's 45" between collars. Since the rack is 48" wide, it's a little close, but I don't have a problem.

I looked online and saw a 7 ft. bar. It had 52" between collars, so that would be better--less chance of hitting the rack. But, as I say, I haven't had any serious problems with a 6 ft. bar--and I need to save all the space I can in my setup.

I went ahead and ordered this rack through Aloyd Fitness here on the island.

$380 Cdn.+ tax.

You're right...the 7 foot bar will work no problem..:)
