View Full Version : What is your fave Tricep exercise?

I am trying to increase my benchpress (heard that one before), and have realized that triceps are more important than I thought they were, in my quest to increase tricep strength I came across the Dumbell Decline Press. I must say this is my favourite tricep exercise, replacing the good-old CloseGrip Benchpress imo.

btw - if you haven't tried dumbell decline presses I suggest you do.:gl:

What is YOUR favourite/best tricep exercise? Or your best way of increasing tricep strength?

Floor Press and close-grip band bench press will take care of the triceps.

Try doing decline BB close-grip bench press with ALOT of weight. These really helped my tricep strength alot.

My favorite tricep exercises are:

1) Close grip decline BB bench press.
2) Weighted dips, with emphasis on triceps.
3) Close grip flat BB bench press.

Those 3 exercises have helped my tricep strength and bench press strength more than any other exercise.

Stiff-arm pullovers (these work the upper Tri's)
Machine Chest Press with the elbows tucked and using the vertical grips not the horizontal grips.
Narrow grip barbell bench with the elbows tucked close.

I'm down with Bluestreak and Heavy Metal. I love Tri Push downs. I have a Body Solid machine and use the cables for a close grip pushdown and after three sets, I can see the my tri's quivering. I LOVE THAT FEELING!

I like to burn my triceps to death with 3 exercises back to back. Use a D ring in a standing cable. I set the weight where I should be able to do 20 reps to exhaust. The I do 8 of each of these back to back, which equals 24 reps. Then I do the other arm. Then I come back. I do a total of 4 times through on both arms.

1. Facing the machine, one handed, palm up extensions: 8 reps. This gets the middle head of the triceps. Then I move on without resting, and spin away from the machine...
2. Turn so resting arm is to the pulley machine, still palm up. I do palm up extensions across the front of my body. This gets the medial head of the triceps. 8 reps.
3. Then I face the machine and turn my palm down and do 8 more. This gets the outer head of the triceps.

Do the other arm.
The next set I go up by 5 lbs. and do 7 in each position.
Do the other arm.
Go up by 5 more lbs. and do 6 in each position.
Do other arm.
Go up by another 5 lbs. and do 5 in each position.

Have fun combing your hair the next day... hehehe!!!:claphigh:

I seem to get the most bang for my tricep-buck with cable moves, by maxing out the TUT (time under tension).
Also weighted dips.

weighted dips make me feel like a monster, albeit a 150lb one :flex:

I love weighted dips, but I'm trying a variety of tri lifts in hopes of evening out the symmetry of my tris a bit more.

Mattback....ever notice how everything on Rings is harder to do..?

The other night I was trying a combo move on rings with my feet elevated to the height of the rings.

Started off in pushup postion. Did a pushup and then tried a sort of Flye, where you let your arms out the side and then come back in.

Then you let your arms go out forward as far as you can without ripping the Pecs off your chest...while keeping your body straight...

A few of these and I was really starting to feel it.....:)

Haven't tried weighted dips on rings yet....but I'm really looking forward to the complete savagery and pain...:p:D:eek:

CGBP and weighted bench dips.

I seem to get more tricep involvement in the bench dips as opposed to stardard dips at the dip station. I use a weighted backpack at the dip station and it makes me lean foward a bit putting more emphasis on the chest.

Try holding a dumbbell on the tops of your feet. It keeps your body perpendicular to the ground and really puts alot of tension on your triceps.
