Hey Everyone,

Whats the law on milk when cutting? When I refer to milk im talking about 99% Fat Free, Skim Milk etc.

Im currently having it with my oats/cerial as I prefer it to water, Protein shakes also taste alot better with milk. (calorie counting all intake of course) Cutting at 2300Cals per day.

Just wondering if its good/bad etc. Obviously a little bit of milk with my oats isnt going to have a huge affect. But where do you draw the line, how much milk is too much in one day etc?

I just have a general impression that milk isnt the best thing (unless your wanting to put on weight) I could be wrong, im really not sure thats why im asking. (for all I know milk could be completly harmless)

Whats your opinion?

Josh,
The criticisms I've read against milk for cutting are:

Milk does contain some simple sugars (not sure how much)
Milk causes buildups of mucus, including under the skin which can cause loss of definition. (Personally, I don't think this would be bad through most of your cut, but right before your cruise you might want to cut it out.)With that in mind, there's a fitness journal (I can't find it right now) from someone who dropped tons of weight and kept lean mass drinking mostly milk.

i lost 112lbs while cutting HEAVY!!! fat free milk was the majority of my calories, prolly about 2/3 of my daily caloric intake came from milk. my reasoning was that i was told that milk had an elastomeric quality to it that would keep your skin tight during rapid, large periods of weightloss. it worked for me, very well might i add. as to the mucous under your skin i believe this to be true, i was VERY lean but still lacked the ab definition until i cut out the milk at the very end.

kept my skin very tight, the only loose skin i have is when in the pushup position i have a very small amout that hangs away from my navel.

this was the difference from when i changed nothing except for cutting out milk at the END of my cut.

jp,

do you think it's crucial to be drinking the milk during the cut, or can it be benefecial afterwards? The reason I ask is I recently lost 40 lbs. in about 5 months, not nearly as much as you, but I have some loose skin around my abdomen and buttocks, even at around 10% BF or lower. It's only really noticeable when I'm sitting or bending, but I would love to be rid of it, I think it's a big reason I don't have as much definition in my abs as I would like. Do you think I should start drinking a lot of skim milk? Will this help?

Great info, and some backgroud proof to show results.

So I guess milk will be fine up until about 6 weeks out, providing im accounting for it and counting calories (which I obviously will be)

6 Weeks is probably enough time to prepare the final cutup without milk im guessing? Guess I will have to analyse my body when I get that close and decide from there. Only time can really tell.

How long was your final cut out period without milk jp?

Does anyone have anything else to add to this, or some negative effects of milk & cutting? (if there are any) I always assumed it should be reasonably ok because it has a reasonable ammount of protein content also.

kohanz this is only my OPINION but i would think that after the fact would have a dramatic effect. i say this because i have had several friends that did the after the fact scenario and it worked out VERY well for them. the amount that i drank was about 3 1/2 gallons per week. you would have to read my post about my work related cardio and other output to understand this amount of milk not being too much. i would think that 2 gallons per day would be a good idea. thats what my other friends did, with the understanding that they did have to make some concessions on other food intake to compensate for the extra calories. thats only 4 1/2 cups of milk per day.

mad180 i cut for prolly 2 1/2 months total. but. understand that until i cut the milk out at the end i had virtually no progress as i was already pretty low on the BF% scale. when i cut it out i did just that, NO MORE MILK PERIOD. as you can see when i quit milk i dried out pretty quicky. now that i look at these pix i guess that i dried out pretty tight as well. makes me want to stop this bulk that im on now and cut back down to that. i guess the promise of having that low of a BF% with about 8 more lbs of lean muscle will keep me on track. :bb:

jp, thanks a lot for the advice. I don't know if it'll work for sure, but the loose skin is such a nuisance, I'm willing to give anything a shot. I have already been drinking skim milk, but not that much, maybe a glass a day, if that. I'll up the intake and see what happens, thanks for the encouragement!
