crupiea October 8th, 2007, 10:29 PM I came across this on another site and thought everyone would get a kick out of it. I made one today and it is really a workout.

HevyMetal October 8th, 2007, 11:00 PM It's off to Home Depot tomorrow!....:tucool:
MannishBoy October 8th, 2007, 11:04 PM Yeah, I read that. Looks cool, but not real practical for storage/transport for me.
I keep thinking about making a sandbag, too.
cajunman October 9th, 2007, 02:24 PM Sand doesn't move as difficultly as water. Did a strongman loading event with some 55-gallon drums (among other things) - one was loaded half-full with water (about 225 lbs), the other less than half-full with about 320 lbs of sand. Difficulty was about the same - the water didn't sound like a lot of weight, but it just kept moving, the sand was heavier, but once you got it up, it didn't move around as much...

I wasn't talking about sand for this project, I was talking about a sandbag in general. Like in a duffle bag.
OrangeTiger October 9th, 2007, 09:36 PM Dan John is awesome. That is all.
phillydude October 10th, 2007, 09:00 PM I'm going to build a few of these this weekend. Different sizes, different weights, different diameters. I just picked up a professional lacrosse player as a client who needs to get ready for training camp in December... this should be a perfect application, especially with rotating and overhead movements (as would occur in swinging the stick and/or forechecking). Anyone have any ideas on good exercises which this kind of equipment would be particularly effective?

Ask Zen. Surprised he isn't all over this thing :)

You might want to PM Dr. Jen on that. I think she was an NCAA lacrosse player.

Well it sounds easier than Johns is making it out. I can make one, but then I'll have this giant pipe partially full of water.
By the way the ultimate in worst thing to put in these would be (nontoxic) metal shot in light oil. That would weigh a whole lot more (Remington Hevi-Shot is 12gm/cc - 12 times heavier than water) and still slop around enough to make you really wish it didn't. So instead of 38 pounds of slosh you would have 456 pounds of run for your life.
Or you could wuss out with cheap steel shot and only have 292 pounds of moderate discomfort.
mattback October 18th, 2007, 08:13 PM i'm going to make one. possibly this weekend. looks f'ing awesome.
HevyMetal October 18th, 2007, 08:20 PM 456 pounds in a Slosh Pipe?
Zen...Zen....be reasonable....we are just ordinary humans...:eek::eek::eek::scared::scared:
mattback October 22nd, 2007, 05:50 PM ok, i'm broke this week but maybe next weekend i'l be able to do it.
phillydude October 24th, 2007, 08:35 AM I made my first two last week.
Used 1.25" pipe, made one 4' and one 6'.
Smaller one weighs 3.5lbs, larger one weighs 5lbs.
I have used them with a few of my female clients for various shoulder exercises so far... one handed front raise, one handed side raise, one handed overhead press, etc. They say that it is definitely more challenging than just using a standard dumbbell.
I plan to make two more (bigger diameters, heavier weights) each week.
