View Full Version : Fried coke! Where the hell is America going?
newcomer October 7th, 2007, 04:04 PM Was just watching Bill Maher ranting the pharmaceuticals companies. He mentioned that he came across a new treat named Fried Cola which is basically flour mixed with cola and fried, then more cola is added, whip cream then finally cinnamon sugar on the top.
What the hell is going on?

That's Consumerism and Capitalism taken to the extreme.
I'm not even American but I'm saddened by the situation.
What do you think?

Um, I think you need to lighten up if a frivolous dessert makes you sad.
Does the fact that the New Zealanders invented the "Pavlova" bother you as well? If so, give them a break, the Kiwis are in national mourning at the moment.

Other than sugar-junkies...who will defend their position to death..
Was just wondering...how does this cleverly-disguised cowpie tie in with
Big Pharma though?
seabass55 October 7th, 2007, 05:39 PM "...so ask your doctor, if getting off your a$$ is right for you"
priceless...

Yes, but there are many things in life that don't specifically benefit us, but we do them anyway because we enjoy them. In my view, "Fried Coke" is a comestible that can be described, at best, as a nutritional atom bomb -- But, even things like this can be consumed every now and then without sending your arteries into an angioplastic tailspin. As long as these kind of indulgences are infrequent, your health won't be compromised.
macarius October 10th, 2007, 06:32 AM Hi, first time poster.
While everyone is obviously free to choose to either take care of their body or let it go to waste, as an American living in Japan for the past few years I'm usually horrified at the current ever growing level of obesity in the U.S. that I see when I travel back home to visit.
Obviously living in a country of people who not only tend to be quite thin on the average, but are also fairly health and fitness conscious, the effect is magnified.
So while a new junk food like fried coke is in itself harmless, it does seem indicitive of a trend in the U.S., IMHO anyway.

Check yourself, son! Political discussion is strictly forbidden here...or well, it used to be...
Look, it was available at the Texas State Fair which has a frying-theme and it was a novelty at a contest there. It won, and people bought it because it won first place in a fried-foods contest and it's original and different.
This isn't huge demand for this thing, again, it's a novelty.
*THIS* is what you consider consumerism and capitalism taken to the extreme? A novelty dessert?:nono:
Gordo October 10th, 2007, 12:01 PM One of the most poignant lines in the Shawshank Redemption:
"Get busy living, or get busy dying"
People always have a choice in how they want to live. Very few in this day in age can honestly stand there and say "I had no idea". So if someone indulges in a decadent dessert, that's their choice. Life is short. Someone enjoying a fried dessert doesn't really affect my little patch of earth.

That was cute, but so sad... Poor little kiwi put so much effort into fooling himself, and then gave his life to experience someting he was never meant to.
GDIHALO October 10th, 2007, 10:41 PM Ive really realized that sodas are absolute poison. One 20oz bottle is like having two and half packets of swizzlers!
krosspyder October 11th, 2007, 02:06 PM im just 40min away from that state fair.... i live in Denton.

thoughts...
Americans are good at:
1) cuisine.
"Let's fry some chit with some more chit. Then fry that"
2) Breeding/rewarding ignorance
3) making themselves fatter.
Rise October 11th, 2007, 03:39 PM the title made me want to vomit when i read it.
on a side note, people are allowed to eat whatever they are willing to hold themselves responsible for. its just too bad there are so many irresponsible people
