First off I need to say, that the fact I need encouragement in the first place is a bad start, but...Here we go. ( Sorry if this is Long )

I have been overweight my entire life. I'm 6'1", and in Jan '02 I was 30 years old and had ballooned another 35 lbs that previous fall to 278 lbs and wore 40" waist.

A very, very large part of my problem was drinking Coke, often 12+ more cans a day.

In Feb '02 I had finally had enough as I was starting to develop acid reflux. At this point I bought a treadmill, and started walking at my target heart rate for 30 mins, and after the initial pain worked up jogging, and was doing 6 miles a day 6 days a week.

By Sept '03 I had went from 278, down to 193 lbs, and was feeling better than I had ever had.

It was always part of the plan, and I joined a gym in the city where I worked, hired a personal trainer and between Sept '02 - Dec '02 got down to 168 lbs, 31" waist and 9-10 % body fat.

My work situation changed, and I no longer had a gym to goto right after work, so purchased equipment for home, but didn't translate all the exercises I had to free weights, and didn't have access to leg press machines, etc.

So things started falling apart, and now I am back up to 220 lbs, and don't feel good about myself at all.

I have had a few false starts, but I am starting up today again, for good, and hoping to be able to be as aggressive as before, and lose 3-4 per week til the end of the year.

If there are is anyone that has fallen off the wagon so to speak that has advice please I would love to hear it.

Thanks,
Brian

First off, congrats on the initial weightloss. It shows you can do it and should be motivation enough.

What equipment do you have available at home?

What was your gym routine? What are you having problems substituting/translating?

I work out exclusively at home, in relatively limited space too. I am able to do all of the big lifts (squat, bench, deads, rows) and accessory lifts with an Olympic Barbell and Olympic Dumbell handles.

I buy used weights from craigslist and play it again sports.

Squats are better than a leg press & extensions. If you have the room and watch Craigslist, you can usually find a squat cage relatively cheap.

Just get it done. If there is a will, there is a way.

If you're looking for sympathy to your situation you're doomed. Change isn't easy so hopefully you'll kick yourself in the butt and make some positive changes. No one is going to do it, but you.

Good luck to you.

Keep getting up.

If the horse throws you, don't lie down and surrender.

I've had alot of problems doing cuts because I lacked DISCIPLINE. I'd do great for one week or two weeks, but then go right back to my old habits. I'm finding out that alot of that had carried over to other areas of my life as well.

Not giving up on my goals, continuing to persevere (sp?) is teaching me the discipline that I need. Maybe I should have learned this at an earlier age, but I didn't so i'm doing it now. As for the weight loss, that WILL fall into place after I have learned sufficient DISCIPLINE; and USE IT.

It's not a process, it's a journey.

In the end, it comes down to being a man.

Good luck with your goals Brian.

I think looking down at the scale and seeing that you've lost weight is the best encouragement someone can get.
