as outlined here: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=998224

People a lot more knowledgeable than I routinely praise it, but I don't get it. I can't imagine that little bit of volume doing much of anything, tenfold when you consider most newbs are scared to lift "big" and aren't pushing themselves as hard as they think anyway. I'm as a big a believer in the compounds as anybody, but cmon', this just seems ridiculous. 7 to 9 sets a week? Insanity, IMO. But what do I know.

What do you think?

Where are you getting these numbers? Did you mean 7 to 9 sets per session? It comes out to more like 23-25 sets per week.

I started out with pretty low volume in my high school's weight training class. I put on about 15 pounds over the course of several months (while eating a whole bunch) and my strength went way up.
I would say the volume was pretty similar to Rippetoe's program, if not lower.

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Scroll down to the Programming section to read about how issues such as weight selection are handled.

As well, the volume recommendations over the week are pretty average. They are lower compared to a split routine per workout, but this is because you are working out more frequently. This is the general idea between every full body program in existence.

Have you worked with programs that aren't geared towards bodybuilding and aren't muscle group splits? If so, this routine wouldn't look ridiculous at all. If not, perhaps, you should learn about other methods of training.

Good post.

I have not used Rippetoe's program, but from what I've read it looks pretty solid.

Also, beyond the fact that that bodybuilding.com guide shouldn't be allowed to exist (IMO), scroll down to the Programming section to read about how issues such as weight selection are handled.
I won't comment on the program because I'm openly biased about it. I'm Dave76 at bb.com. I live in Wichita Falls and work out at Rip's gym.

Rip knows about the sticky at bb.com and approved it before it was posted. I don't know of any reason why the sticky shouldn't be allowed to exist.

Then it's all good. :tu:

I understand your concern. I stumbled into bb.com about the time that sticky was being written and had concerns about copyright issues myself. I gave Rip a heads up before it was posted in case he wanted to put a stop to it. He's definitely Ok with it.
