I've recently started drinking a lot more milk and just want to cover my bases. Any harm in drinking about 2litres of whole milk a day?

That's nearly 8 1/2 cups of whole milk per day. At 150 calories per cup, you're drinking 1200 calories per day and gettting about 70 grams of fat from it (over 40 grams of saturated fat).

How many calories are you eating otherwise? To me that seems a little excessive, even when bulking. I would rather eat more whole foods. I would probably try to cut back on the saturated fat. Just me though.

Food-wise I normally aim for around the 3000 calories mark. Sometimes I fall a bit short, but I guess the milk tops up the calorie count.

I drink so much milk because I actually quite like it and figured it couldn't be doing any harm...70g of fat is a lot though, I think I'll switch to semi-skimmed at least...

I've also heard that too much milk can increase the chances for Prostate cancer in males and Ovarian cancer in females. My father drank lots of milk growing up and was diagnosed at 60. It freaks me out little. I don't milk trumps genetics, but I definately regulate how much i drink. Here's an article that might be interesting. Again, I don't think milk is bad for you, but anything in excess can't be great.

According to that report:

"In a Harvard study of male health professionals, men who drank two or more glasses of milk a day were almost twice as likely to develop advanced prostate cancer as those who didn't drink milk at all."

:(

Also:

Avoid too much protein. Getting too much protein can leach calcium from your bones. As your body digests protein, it releases acids into the bloodstream, which the body neutralizes by drawing calcium from the bones. Animal protein seems to cause more of this calcium leaching than vegetable protein does.

:(:(

There must be other people on this forum who drinks loads of milk...the guy who's avatar was one of him drinking milk, for example?! What do you guys think?

I think it depends on the person. I for one drink milk daily, and I eat a lot of animal protein as well. :)

Here is another interesting discussion: http://thefitnessinsider.menshealth.com/2007/05/if_you_were_at_.html

I had to think twice about posting that article. I think that too much of anything can be found to cause cancer. As well, something that prevents certain types of cancer will cause other types.

My family seems to be very susceptible to prostate cancer. I'm not sure if you could say that drinking milk was a major contributor, but my philosophy is to eat as clean as I can and keep everything in moderate amounts, especially those things which have been found to possibly increase risk. My father's battle with cancer has been difficult and he has had to face things that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

I'd also be curious to know about milk consumption and what some of the more researched individuals would say.

One of the interesting articles I have read had definite links between milk consumption and breast/prostate cancer which struck home to me as living in New Zealand we eat a LOT of dairy, we have ads on tv all the time promoting it and we also have one of the highest incidents of breast cancer in the world if not the highest.

http://www.milksucks.com/breast.asp

in NZ we have a one in nine chance of getting breast cancer which is insanely high, and I cant help but associate it with our ridiculously high amounts of dairy consumption. I should back this up with facts but im at work so I will edit this when I get home :P
