I broke my clavicle (the collar bone) 2 weeks ago playing flag football. I havent been able to exercise since, I wear a sling at most times. I have surgery this morning at 10am and the doctor told me to expect 6-8 weeks before I am healed. Obviously I know I cant lift, and he actually told me I might not be able to lift for 3-4 months, but does anyone have ideas for exercise?

I am going to try and start exercising about a week from today. I imagine I am going to be able to ride the stationary bike but I want to be able to do different things. I am a big fan of exercise through enjoyable activities such as sports.

I really dont want to put on any weight during this downtime. I know I will probably lose some muscle. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I would follow his directions and ask if you can do cardio ie. treadmill.

I don't know how bad you broke it (but it sounds pretty bad if you're in for surgery). If I were you, I'd concentrate on super clean eating and let that sucker heal. Also, try not to hit the Vicodin too hard.

I had a compound break in my left collar bone (3 nifty pieces), combined with a fractured scapula two years ago. It took me 16 weeks to heal, and weight training was a slow return. To moderate the fat gain, I walked... but cardio of any impact was suicide.

Stationary bike might not be a bad idea, but listen to the doc and take it easy. Best of luck with the healing!
