I understand that right after a workout the muscles are most ready to absorb nutrients. That's the reason of having a post-workout shake - to maximize protein absorption (in addition to diminishing catabolism after workout).
My question is, is it a good timing to take the multivitamin too? Is it desired that the vitamins be absorbed by the muscles, or are they better be absorbed by other organs (liver? spleen?) and therefore taking them at that timing is counter-productive?

Maybe I should ask it in a different way - when do you usually take your multivitamin?

I take one with breakfast and one with my (afternoon/evening) PW-meal. Go for a high-quality two-a-day tailored towards heavily active lifestyles, rather than just a supermarket one-a-day if possible.
