View Full Version : Digitial Food Scales Donna September 27th, 2007, 06:08 PM What is a good price, and brand for a digital food scale. Thanks NotNamedDan September 27th, 2007, 06:21 PM I'll double check mine when I got home, but I purchased on an impulse at Williams Sonoma in an already ridiculously overpriced mall, and mine was about $50. I don't even want to ask Google how much other people would charge me for the same model. Mine is basic, too. Grams/Ounces, On/Zero, that's it. I should stop thinking about how much I spent on it. Ha. woodan September 27th, 2007, 06:26 PM I bought some scientific scales off ebay for about £8. They are very small so it can be difficult measuring some larger items but they are incredibly accurate. MannishBoy September 27th, 2007, 07:09 PM I think a lot of people around here have use Salter brand stuff, and they vary from $25 or so on up to $100 or more. They seem to be one of the more common brands at places like Bed Bath and Beyond, LnT, etc (if in the US). Just make sure you get one with a "tare" function so you can do incremental ingredients by zeroing out the scale. Amazon also carries some. NotNamedDan September 27th, 2007, 07:18 PM MannishBoy hit the nail on the head. I have this one (http://www.roastmasters.com/salter-scale.html) (totally random website, by the way, just where I found it in a pinch just now), and like I said, I got it at Williams Sonoma for about $50. I love it. It has a 5lb limit and I can zero it over and over to add ingredients, again, as MannishBoy said. leftyx September 28th, 2007, 09:49 AM MannishBoy hit the nail on the head. I have a crappy one with a dial and a needle indicator. It doesn't seem accurate within a couple of ozs. Yeah it's that bad. Agon September 28th, 2007, 12:41 PM I bought this Salter 7lb model (http://www.lnt.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2214455&cp=1331607.1331951.2141948&parentPage=family) a few months back and it's great. The only minor complaint I have about it is I wish the flat area on the top was a little larger in diameter. It only really causes issues when I'm weighing things on paper plates. Overall I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a decent digital scale for a reasonable price. Seltzer September 28th, 2007, 02:51 PM I have a Salter also and bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond, but I'm sure there are plenty of outlets where it could be purchased. Mine has a weight capacity of 11 pounds, which I've never come close to needing, but I bought it because the scale platform was the size that I wanted. I just did a quick search for my model online and I can't find it so it may be discontinued and replaced with a newer version. As others before me have written, it's very convenient to have the ability to zero out what's already on the scale; it's really a must have feature. pirothezero September 30th, 2007, 04:03 AM I bought a weed scale at a smokers shop for 34dollars goes up to 600g. And no I don't smoke but it was the first place I thought of, plus it was down the street from my place. |
