I'm in kind of a rut. I work an office, 8 to 5. I would consider my diet very clean. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are all very well planned out. But to keep with a goal of eating 5 smaller "meals" a day, I need some ideas of "snacks" for mid morning and mid afternoon. I guess they really wouldn't be snacks, just other meals, but those are the time slots I have trouble with since I'm at work. Now we have a full kitchen short of an oven where I work. So I can heat something up. But I really don't want aromas surfacing in the office at 10:30 AM. So, let me know some of the mid morning or mid afternoon "meals" you all consume. The easier the better. I would like to impliment some of these this upcoming week. Thanks to all ideas.

Chicken and rice. Chicken and almonds. Chicken and green beans. Steak and pineapple. Steak and broccoli. Hard boiled egg whites and grapefruit. Salad and oil and vinegar and turkey. Turkey and peanut butter. Turkey and rice and beans...

Most of the foods I named above shouldn't add too much smell to the office, maybe the broccoli though but I don't know since I hate broccoli. :) I'd go for tuna sometimes, but that probably wouldn't smell very good. :)

Just pre-cook your meals beforehand, store in Tupperware, and heat it up at work. Sounds like you have the perfect situation with the full kitchen available! :tucool:

Other than that, you could make your 2 "snacks" be protein powder and some other food (almonds, peanut butter, ground oats, milk, oil, flax seeds, etc.).

Great suggestions...I will surely use those. Any others are appreciated as well.

What else do you all eat besides chicken and steak?

Salmon, turkey, and eggs :)

There's also always the salad with chicken and an oil based dressing for P+F or a fruit on the side of a P+C meal. No smell with that.

For convenience foods at work, I'll often also go to protein powder+oil or nuts, or protein powder + fruit. Or even jerky and nuts is a good combo. Salty, but I don't worry about salt since I stay pretty hydrated.

Else, just another meal as suggested above.

My workout is after work around 5:30-6:00. Should I plan around this workout in terms of what I eat? ie. low carb, heavy carb? protein?

Not sure I understand what you mean here. I'd plan your diet around your workout, not the other way around.

As far as small meal suggestions, there's always cottage cheese and fruit with nuts sprinkled on top.

That's a complex question :)

General rule a lot of people follow is to try to center carb intake around workouts and possibly first thing in the morning. So maybe a bit of carbs in the meal immediately pre-workout, then some during and after workouts for a meal or so.

However, some carb cycle through the week, so those rules don't always apply. But in general, with a typical diet, put your carbs PWO or maybe immediately before lifting.

Maybe I was confusing. Since my workout is right after work, should my meal at 2-3 PM be planned according to my workout? For example: Should that meal be carb heavy? carb light? more/less protein? My post-workout meal will be my "dinner" and is always protein rich with complex carbs. I hope thats more clear.

Great. That answers my questions exactly.

I make my mid-morning/afternoon "meals" more like snacks. A whole wheat bagel (or celery) with almond butter frequently in the morning. In the afternoon, when I need a pick-me-up, that's when a big protein bar can take the place of a candy bar.

Here is what I grab between meals. It's more snacks than anything...

- Canned tuna
- Fruits (Banana, peach, apple, etc.)
- Fat free/low fat yogurt
- Almonds
- Raw veggies

A protein bar is a great idea when I'm in a pinch. Though I like the idea, I've yet to find a protein bar that is in low in sugar, ie. <10g. Canned tuna and chunk chicken have worked out very nicely. I also have a can of unsalted mixed nuts if I need a handful.

You can always make your own protein bars. Tons of recipes around the net.

Or what I do, just simply mix protein powder and PB and maybe a few nuts. Then put in the fridge to kind of make it hard. If you want carbs, throw in some oats or ground oats.

Excuse the ignorant question, but what does PB stand for?
