View Full Version : Time and heart rate % for cardiovascular improvement

My current plan is:
- Weight Training: 3x per week, ~45 minutes each session
- Hiking: 1x per week, ~4 hours @ 68%-72% heart rate
- Cardio: 2px per week ? minutes, ? heart rate

My primary goal for the cardio session is to improve my cardiovascular fitness as much as possible (weight loss, etc., is a minor and secondary goal).

Given this, how many minutes per session of cardio would you suggest doing, and what % heart rate would you suggest targeting during the 2 cardio session a week?

(PS: I do have a preference for striving for a certain heart rate instead of HIIT, because then I have more flexibility in terms of what cardio I do instead of having to stare at my watch the whole time.)

Well, if you want to do it for conditioning, but you don't want to do HIIT, go run 3 miles for time 2x/wk.
