View Full Version : Dextrose Drinks?
oxalic August 30th, 2007, 12:02 AM Are there any good tasting drinks where the main or only sugar is dextrose? Vitamin water is mainly crystallized fructose, gatorade is high fructose corn syrup like soda. Havent seen dextrose in any drinks. Powerade is also high fructose corn syrup.
KineticPoet August 30th, 2007, 03:40 AM Yep...sure are...you just have to make em yourself.

Do they just not exist? It's hard to believe how stupid someone could be to buy a "sports drink" and just assume "healthy".
chicanerous August 30th, 2007, 08:15 PM Buy powdered Gatorade and mix it yourself. Dextrose is the base ingredient, unlike in the prebottled liquid. Either that or just buy actual dextrose and make your own concoctions.
jgsatl August 30th, 2007, 09:33 PM seems like something with dextrose and l-glutamine would be a very nice post-workout drink.
Nowhereman September 1st, 2007, 02:08 AM I use dextrose now but I used buy the Twin Lab fruit punch Ultra Fuel. Very delicious. Not that expensive but I wouldn't mix it with protein or anything like that, unless you get the flavorless kind. Basically it gives you about 25 grams of carbs per scoop, I did 100 grams at the time, but others reccomended that I not use so much. Dextrose is a lot cheaper and it lasts a lot longer. But I actually miss the taste of the Ultra Fuel. I think you can pick it up for like 14 bucks at Bodybuilding.com.

water, dextrose, glutamine, creatine and whey is my PWO. Can't say it tastes great, but isn't disgusting really either.
Cheap though ;-)

Tip: If you are wanting a non-creamy protein to mix with stuff like this, look for a Whey Protein Isolate. They make fruit flavors that really mix up clear and are nothing like what you'd expect if you've only used protein powders based around whey concentrates or that contain casein.
I've been using Substance WPI for a workout drink with BCAAs for a long time, but I think they are going to stop making it according to what 1FastGTX told me. Nectar is another brand that's similar, though, and there are others.

As far as "protein juice" I have only tried syntrax Nectar, but I would defiantly recommend it! It was such a nice change to have a lemonade or peach juice shake and although it wasn't clear like a normal sugary fruit juice, once you drink it its just as thin and refreshing (not creamy at all).
Mix that with some dextrose and you would have a pretty tasty juice with protein and carbs.

i've been doing just glutamine before my workout....then whey and glutamine with fruit blended in it (sometimes made with fat free milk).
i'm trying to cut fat and maintain muscle mass right now. i'm hoping that combo is good for that.
oxalic September 11th, 2007, 08:25 PM How bad is it to have sucrose? The gatorade powder is sucrose + dextrose.
