View Full Version : Just another lurker finally saying hi...

So after doing the lurking thing for a while...I've decided it's time to join in the fun:). This thread will be serving pretty much as nothing but an introduction (just feel like I should say hi before throwing out any questions!)…so anyone looking for some worthwhile information or a question to answer…feel free to move on to a different thread:D.

I'm currently 28 years old (male)...5’11”…190lbs...I'd estimate 18-20% BF. Spent my life up through age 22 as an elite athlete and after hanging it up, decided I needed to take a few years to see how the other half lived (read: see what life is like when you aren’t training 60 hours a week). Never really let myself get that out of shape…but never really did much to prevent the slow BF creep that tends to come with a desk-job either. It was a hugely needed break (for sanity’s sake)…but now I’m ready to get back to a body I can be proud of.

My current short-term goal is a cut/toning. Essentially…dropping 10-15lbs of BF while tightening up what’s underneath. Major strength gains are not really an objective at this point. Once I’ve gotten through this phase…I’ll see whether I’m interested in a bulk or just a perpetual maintain. “Bulk” was evil in my athletic yesteryears…so it might be fun to try to add on some more lean mass than I ever carried before when the time is right. We’ll see though.

On the strength side…the basement gym currently includes dumbbell pairs through 100s and a power-tower for chins/dips (I workout alone and have no desire to go the barbell route…even with a rack). For cardio…I’m still searching Craigslist and eBay for a reasonably priced Concept2…but for now am limited to a bike, a climber, and a Gazelle my wife insisted upon…which actually isn’t the worst change-of-pace I’ve ever tried!

I don't have any past experience in pure strength-focused fitness...but I hope that the time I spent dedicated to a life of training will have provided some knowledge that I can lend in exchange for everything this community has to offer! The time I spent as an athlete did include countless hours of varied training (many of which were with world-class strength coaches)...and a focus on body comp that most would categorize as beyond obsessive...so there's got to be some worthwhile knowledge in there...right!:D!

So anyway...that’s pretty much me in four paragraphs or less:D.

Now that I’ve gotten the introduction out of the way....I’ve got a few preliminary questions I wouldn’t mind getting some input on. But I’ll open more appropriately named threads for them. Like I said…this one was just to say hi to the community that I’m hoping will help keep me focused and on track!

See ya around the forumns!

Hey Dan, welcome to JSF. :tu:

Your introduction reads like an episode of the gameshow "What's my Line?". So let's see, as clues we have;

-- likely collegiate level athlete
-- high volume of training hours
-- aversion towards mass gains as related to performance
-- conditioning focus over strength from various training protocols

Don't give it away yet, this could be fun. Any guesses from the audience?

LOL...didn't really intend it that way but in re-reading what I wrote...I can see where you're coming from.

Based on your "hints"...I can come up with a few "pasts" that would fit the bill though...so I'd be interested in which you...or others...were thinking.

However...I'll add one more hint for you...all your "hints" aren't entirely on track...so you may not be as close as you think. ;)

If someone gets it right though...I'll certainly cop to it...I've got nothing to hide

I was thinking diving or maybe some form of distance running. Anywhere close?

Actually...nope...and nope:D

You put a bit too much emphasis on the couple of your hints that were a bit off ;)
