View Full Version : Confused about cutting

I keep hearing many different methods of getting the most efficient cut. One would be the method John Stone used for his initial 2003 cut. Another would Max OT. and then, a bodybuilder at the gym told me today that I would have to do 30-50 reps of 5 sets with very low weight to get the most efficient cut. So what's the deal?

Kinda unrelated, but I have another question. I thought just doing 45 mins of cardio fasted in the AM and 7-day cycle of weight lifting in the PM would be enough to get me cut since I am maintaining a clean 1800-2000 cal diet with about 40p-45c-15f breakdown. I've weighed 185 for the past 3 weeks although I do feel like I've gained a little physique. Prior to this cut, I was sedentary for about 6 months. Is it possible that I've just gained enough weight in muscle (more blood in muscles maybe?) that my loss in fat weight was canceled out?

3 weeks isn't enough time to tell what's going on with your body yet. To give you a solid answer we'd need to know

height
current lifting routine
approximate BF% may help
pics would help too

I believe the best cutting weight routine is lifting 4 days a week, either full-body or a 2-day split. Hit the big compounds; squat, bench, row, deadlift, pullups. 2-3 sets, 8-10 reps, not to failure. Short rest periods(30s) to keep the heart rate up.

Any number of routines will work for cutting, but I don't think the massive reps at low weight will give you what you're looking for. That may be a technique some people use for a short time while trying to lean out for a show, although I don't recall hearing any of the JSFers who compete talking about a method like that.
