View Full Version : Thoughts on a split like this?

Just curious what some of you guys thought about a split like this... not the muscle groups in particular, but the idea of "wrapping-around" each week.

Sunday: Chest/Tris
Monday: Shoulders/Traps/Abs
Tuesday: Legs
Wednesday: Cardio
Thursday: Back/Bis/Forearms
Friday: Chest/Tris
Saturday: Cardio
Sunday: Shoulders/Traps/Abs
Monday: Legs
.
.
.

And the cycle would keep repeating, with each "real week" a different muscle group being worked twice.

Right now I do

Sunday: Chest/Tris
Monday: Cardio
Tuesday: Shoulders/Traps/Abs
Wednesday: Cardio
Thursday: Legs
Friday: Back/Bis/Forearms
Saturday: Off

I also do cardio Sunday and/or Friday morning. But my question is just on the lifting aspect. Would adding that extra lifting day in and wrapping around each week have any benefits?

Thanks!

You need a rest day, not just rest for particular groups.

In the long-run, I think that having a complete day of rest will be of benefit. Especially as you use HIIT for your cardio. You won't burn as many calories for the week, but that can be compensated for by diet.

Also, since most cardio utilises legs preferentially, having your cardio after leg day might impinge on muscle growth.

it seems like you would end up overtraining pretty quickly. Especially the fact that you have chest on sunday, then monday is shoulders (have you tried working these groups this close together before? I noticed i significant reduction in weight when i had to...) Then the following friday you are pretty much repeating the same thing...

I guess if are doing less sets and reps then it might be ok but i personally think you are better off with your original split but thats just me

You'll only get benefits if you recover before your next work out (for that muscle group).

It's fine for a little while, but it can easily lead to overtraining if you don't recover. Make sure you get lots of rest and eat well.

Try it for a month and see how you feel. If you feel tired and you're not gaining any muscle then do less work.
