Its baseball season....and I've been playing just about every second night, sometimes more.
Lately I've noticed that it takes almost 3-4 times longer to warm up and stretch my arm to the point where I can throw without any sort of pain or soreness.
I don't usually throw a lot(play 3rd and left field)....but I try to stretch twice per day...and soft toss at least once if I don't play.
Yet, the problem seems to still stick around.
The pain is in my shoulder area....
More stretching? A week off? I have no pain right now...in fact, once I get warmed up, I don't feel a thing.
Any kind of particular stretches that would help?
Thanks in advance.

A: Stretching is probably not helpful at all. Recent studies intended to show benefits of stretching mostly debunked the idea that stretching is good. There are bad effects of stretching. Certainly try and limit stretching before workouts. Resistance exercise is probably a safer option than stretching.
B: If it's shouder pain, you really have to rethink what you are doing. You're asking for it, and shoulders (unlike say elbows) are not so easy to fix at all. The shoulder may be the most complicated joint in the body and the hardest to repair.
C: Are you doing the Jobe exercises religiously? If not, you're asking for it. Note that this is NOT stretching. It's resistance exercise that strengthens the rotator cuff. In your case it might still be "prehab". If you screw up your shoulder then you will be assigned it as "rehab".

I play baseball, too, and we just finished our regular season and just about to start our post season playoffs. I play shortstop and my shoulder was giving me pain in the beginning of the season whenever I would try to put some heat behind the ball. A few times I went to throw the ball from deep in the hole and after I threw it, my shoulder would get numb. It sucked.
Follow what Zen said, especially about stretching. I quit stretching my arm after the first few weeks and started to do more long tossing with a regular weight ball. I also started doing high rep internal and external rotation exercises... both for rotator cuffs.
Use a 5lb dumbbell and get around 25-30 reps at about 3-4 sets.

I did not stretch yesterday before playing....and it actually helped.
So if I keep up the jobe exercises, I should be good to go.
