I am an avid hockey player, and have always struggled with a pre-game meal that will give me the energy I need to perform well throughout a 90 minute game.

Does anyone have any suggestions or meals they've used themselves before playing any sports?

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Honestly.

For me, the most important thing is something simple and consistent. I don't want to eat something out of the ordinary, I want something my stomach is used to. Lots of carbs and calories, too.

I'll have to try that. My games are always in the late afternoon. I'll switch out my normal lunch with something a little bit heavier, like add pasta to my chicken or something like that. Then an hour or so before the game I'll have an energy/protein bar (like MetRx protein plus - 30g protein 30g carbs).

Now MY only problem is the post-game meals. Someone on my team always brings beer (it's almost impossible to say no to them when they try to give you a beer) and then we end up at some restaurant (Applebees or such). It pretty much wastes all the exercise I got out of the game.

I've traveled with college football teams for the past 5 years and have eaten their pregame meals. They usually consist of pasta with no sauce, chicken, potatoes, and fruit. If it's a brunch-time meal, there is usually cereal and pancakes. If it's a later meal, there was also stuff to make sandwiches.
