i have an awkward feeling in the left side of my middle ab of my six pack.

it starts to feel 'awkward' when i do heavy squats, deadlifts, crunches, or pretty much anything involving high weight and core movements.

i don't really know how to explain it.. it doesn't feel like pain, because it doesn't hurt at all.

it feels almost like a nervish spasm.
it's right below the bottom bone of my ribcage. if i flex my abs very hard i can feel it sometimes make the same awkward feeling.

could this be the beginnings of a hernia?

I have had this 'awkward' feeling for about the past 5 years, whenever i would do lots of crunches / situps / taekwondo / whatever, but only for the past 4 months has it really started to become more apparent.

Could be nothing more than a muscle in your left side that does not track perfectly..Going on that long (5 years) in the same manner would indicate that (possibly and I am guessing)..

Hardly anyone has perfect right/left muscle symmetry..Training stress and conditioning bring out those imperfections (couch potatoes don't discover those)..

Since you are a well-conditioned athlete, you are aware of the more subtle responses..Of course, this might not be the answer at all..Spinal
mis-alignment could also be considered if you have had an injury. I have read that 98% of us have some degree of spinal mis-alignment and that is the cause of most non-tracking muscle..
