View Full Version : Holy crap, what the hell happened to my neck...
ThatIsRazonable Wed, July 4th, 2007, 11:37 PM I woke up today, and started to strecth out my yawn which was accompanied by loud roars and growls.
As I stretched out my body which included my neck, I felt this strong crack in my rear right side of the neck....pain rushed into that part of the neck and I started to get extreme pain when turning my neck to the right or up or down.
The crack was mega too, I actually thought it may have paralyzed me somewhere as I paniced and started moving my body around to see if I was ok.
I can locate the main pain area by massaging it, but the soreness of the pain can be felt throughout my right trap all the way to the back of my head.
The pain has eased up alittle now...
I was supposed to workout today, but I don't think I should. I should be able to pull off a full blown workout, but there is a chance the pain can kick in while I have 145 lbs. in my hand causing the pain to lock me up.
Argh this is going to screw me up, I'm praying it eases up tomorrow as I can make up my workout tomorrow and do my 3rd on Saturday.
MannishBoy Wed, July 4th, 2007, 11:46 PM Probably a pinched nerve. A "crick" in your neck. I get them periodically if I sleep wrong. Sometimes it takes 2-3 days to completely get range of motion back in my neck :)
If I keep trying to pop my neck, sometimes it will release. Not sure if that's wise or not, but I do it anyway. :D
kribrg Thu, July 5th, 2007, 12:53 AM This same thing happened to me on Christmas morning this past year. I got up, sat on the couch to watch my daughter open presents, yawned and then OMG. I could literally feel the muscle on the right side from the top of my shoulder blade through my neck to the base of my head just shrivel or coil up. I went to a chiropractor (ouch) a couple of days later and got a massage a couple of days after that just to try and unbind it. However, It still took almost a week before I got full range of motion back.
ThatIsRazonable Thu, July 5th, 2007, 01:48 AM I don't need full relief, I just need enough so I can complete my workout.
I tried today, but I barely couldn't do it as the pain is new to me and it hurts like hell.
Doubleoqueso Mon, July 23rd, 2007, 11:23 PM Might want to see a doctor if the pain lasts that long. Debilitating neck pains happen to me occasionally, but only for a second or two. However, I broke my neck a few years ago, so I may have something completely different.
You don't want to mess with neck pains, though. There's a lot of important stuff in there.
sevenatenine Tue, July 24th, 2007, 08:10 AM Mine didn't start off with a loud crack, but I pulled a muscle in my neck once in my sleep and when I woke up it hurt so bad to turn my head to the left or try to lift it that I couldn't get out of bed. After lying there for a few hours the only way I managed to get out of bed was by sucking up the pain and supporting my head with my hand while rising.
I seem to remember that only lasted for a day though, or at least the better part of a day.
banderbe Tue, July 24th, 2007, 10:06 AM I don't know man, if I were you, and I'm not, but if I were.. I'd go workout anyway and just take it slow. If any of your lifts cause the slightest pain, stop immediately.
I've had pains before that I thought might bother me during the workout and they turned out to be fine, and actually felt better afterwards.
Elvisman2001 Tue, July 24th, 2007, 11:43 PM My cousin had nearly this same thing happen to him just last week. Had a bad pop in his neck and pain. Thought it was a crick in his neck. He has a BAD habit of popping his neck all the time too.
Anyway, he went ahead and worked out... turns out he has a herniated disk in his neck which will require surgery... so if it were me... I DEFINITELY wouldn't try popping my neck till the pain went away and I would go see a doctor if it didn't get any better and I certainly wouldn't excercise till i found out what it was... but that's just me.
steveyk Fri, August 24th, 2007, 11:09 AM i know how you feel mate... im just going through this right now. i was scrapping with a guy who was 6ft tall and over 16 stones... its left me with whiplash effect which i noticed after getting up from bed 36hrs after the incident happened.
All i can say is keep stretching your neck off and if the pain gets too bad, take some ibuprofen
