I got a set of dumbells, and the second time around I had a lot of free time, so did a lot of low weight sets (10kg), like 4 sets of 10 bicep curls and 4 sets of 10 dumbell presses, and some tricep extensions. Whats weird is that the sides of my hands hurted the next day, more than my muscles do today. They still hurt a little bit two days later. Did I pull some ligament or wrist muscle or something? Am I lifting wrong? The inner face of the dumbell wasn't hitting my hands or anything. Thanks for any advice/info!

Who knows what it could have been..
I don't know if you're new or not to this, assuming you are, it could simply be that your hands aren't used to gripping weights like that.
Following with the grip theory, it could be you had too much of an iron grip on that..err iron and you may need to loosen up just a little.
Or, if you didn't use gloves, it could simply be the weight going into your hands. Before I got padded gloves, I had some serious callouses from lifting the barbells and dumbells.
So who knows, it could be anything really.
