(I wasnt sure if this thread should go in off-topic or general health. I decided general health as I view this as a health risk)

This is 1 reason why I have gone vegetarian. This really p*sses me off. IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO FEED CATTLE SH*T!!!!!!!! Now think about it and say it to yourself. Think about it when you are eating beef. Not only about how you are eating beef that was fed SH*T, but how that animal lived. How would you feel if your diet consisted of SH*T?
Im sorry if Im coming off as one of those animal rights activist, but I had to post this and my comments.
I have always had a soft spot for animals anyway, but I dont have a problem with people eating animals. WHAT I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IS THE FARMING TECHNIQUES USED AND THE TORTURING OF ANIMALS.

And if you read all of it, you'll come across this:
The article points to a scientific study, soon to be published in the journal Preventive Medicine, that warns about the potential dangers of recycling chicken waste by feeding it to cattle.

Where the hell is the almighty FOOD and drug administration and the USDA!?!??! Aernt(sp?) they supposed to evaluate a product BEFORE it goes on the market for safety?(the product being sh*t-fed beef as opposed to grain/grass-fed).

Then take a look at this:
While it may sound distasteful, this can be safe if the manure is heated to 160 degrees to kill the bacteria. But, the study says many farmers don't take that precaution.

They are actually triing to defend this action by saying that it can be sanitary by heating the sh*t!!!!! Why dont we just feed humans sh*t then? O yea, it's f*cking disgusting!!!!

I realize that this is an old article. I have known about this from other websites, but Ive never seen it on cnn, msn, or any other news site.
Im out!!!

I know the article is from 1997, but this is what happens in a free-market economy run amok. self-policing, my curvy pink butt.

and if you liked that, you'll love this:

summary, since the NY Times makes you register:
"The Bush administration generally frowns on federal regulation and touts the virtues of voluntary efforts to deal with all manner of national problems. So it was quite a shock when heavy-handed regulators at the Agriculture Department refused to let a private company test all the cattle it slaughters for mad cow disease.

The request to conduct tests was submitted by Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, a small producer in Kansas, which wanted to resume selling its high-priced Black Angus beef in Japan, a major market. The Japanese have detected some 10 or so cases of mad cow disease in their own country, so they now test every animal slaughtered for food purposes there. They want American exporters to do the same."

typical politicians: ignore a problem in hopes it'll go away or abate long enough to be someone else's problem in the next administration.
