View Full Version : am i eating enough?
andysutils June 15th, 2007, 11:35 AM i been lifting now for around 5-6 weeks trying to bulk but have only really just got a good appetite in the last 3 weeks or so.
at 142lbs 6ft & 27 years of age, you can understand why a bulk is needed, i am also lifting heavy weights but not to heavy so i fail at any rep apart from military presses.
heres what or around what i consume everyday.
morning breakfast
1 banana
1 tablespoon of natty peanut butter
1 cup of oats
2 cups of milk
2 scoops of whey protein
mid morning.
bowl of wholegrain cereal
lunch
chicken tika sandwich or fish with peas & carrots
mid day
2 round of tuna on wholemeal bread
Tea time evening
Steak salad/chicken breast salad with potatoes.
evening or before bed time
1banana
1 tablespoon of natty peanut butter
1 cup of oats
2 cups of milk
2 scoops of whey protein
I may have snacks in between such as more peanut butter or a few bags of nuts, lots of fruit & the occasional bag of crisp.
i cant nor do i know how to break all that down into protein or carbs or calories, i do know however the breakfast which is the same as what i have in the evening provides me with nearly 2000 calories alone.

try using a site like fitday.com or calorieking.com
By the way i am not sure that your breakfast is even 1000 cals.
Foley June 15th, 2007, 12:04 PM As Jedi said, work out the amounts of protein, carbs, fats and calories. Then come back.
Just looking at it, it doesn't look enough :)
andysutils June 15th, 2007, 02:49 PM try using a site like fitday.com or calorieking.com
By the way i am not sure that your breakfast is even 1000 cals.no its not 1000cals, id say inc the whey protein it mounts to about 800cals.
I used a cal calculator on maximuscle site & it recommended i need to be taking in 1800-2500 cals a day, if i was someone at a normal weight, that would probably be more.
I cant possibly see how my 6 meals a day isnt enough when people who weight 180lbs only eat 6 meals a day themselves.
ok im putting my fitday together now, looks very impressive.
Ill get back when im done like you said foley
Robert2006 June 15th, 2007, 02:58 PM I'm 148lb with an average intake of around 2500 calories a day. I maintain or some weeks lose a little weight. I'm older then you .
You really should take the five minutes at one of the many calorie counting websites to figure out your totals.
www.calorie-count.com
Is fairly painless.
andysutils June 15th, 2007, 03:39 PM wow thats amazing, ok ive added most of it up, however, 2 of my meals i cant count for because there just to random, there things like bacon & baked beans & my 18:00 meal can be anything from steak & chips to a chicken salad but heres what ive added up already & this also excludes the high calorie salami i eat now and again so it would be even more than whats listed below, ill try find a way to work those other 2 meals out.

sevenatenine June 15th, 2007, 05:44 PM Why does it say your protein powder has nearly twice the carbs as it has protein?
Looks like you have your work cut out for you eating all that food everyday:D
Fernslinger June 15th, 2007, 06:31 PM Dont raw oats have about 300 cals per cup?

Looks like you have your work cut out for you eating all that food everyday:Dthanks, i had absoloutly no idea it amounted to that the scarier thing about that is thats just what i eat for breakfast and at bed time.
Lord only knows how many calories more i eat inbetween with the rest of my daytime meals.
chris mason June 16th, 2007, 01:19 PM First, you will NEVER gain any weight eating like that.
You need to eat some foods which are higher in fat and thus have greater caloric "density".
andysutils June 16th, 2007, 01:50 PM First, you will NEVER gain any weight eating like that.
You need to eat some foods which are higher in fat and thus have greater caloric "density".i do. thats just first thing & last thing, i eat lots of pasta, fish, peanuts, some salami, steak, olive oil, red salmon & eggs, drink lots of whole fat milk & water but that kinda stuff is hard to calculate when its sat on a plate, im still working on it.
But it doesnt really matter what i eat as ive gotta do what works for me because whatever i post about my diet or what i eat, someones gonna always tell me its wrong anyway.
Big thanks for that fitday.com though, thats a real help.

Are they normal rolled oats?
andysutils June 19th, 2007, 04:57 AM Are they normal rolled oats?there just very flaky & quite hard when there dry in a box.
Ill take a photo of some & post.
goonie June 25th, 2007, 07:07 PM If you're looking for something like Old Fashioned Quaker Oats on FitDay, search for "Regular Oats" and you should come up with:
"Cereals, oats, regular and quick and instant, without fortified, cooked with water, without salt, (oats)"
Compare the nutritional data on this item to what is listed on the package of the brand you're using. You can always add a custom food item if they don't appear the same.
2 cups cooked in water would come out to around 600 calories (half of what you have listed if we are indeed talking about the same food).
