Hey guys,
So I recently graduated from college 2 months ago (GO GO Electrical Engineering ). Anyways, I have decided to get back in shape after 4 yrs of almost very minimal physical activity. I joined Lifetime Fitness which is like 2 mins from my house, and signed up for 5 sesssions with a personal trainer.

So, today was my 3rd session, and we were gonna do strength training today; however, being the amateur that i am I only had 2 cereal bars and a glass of orange juice before I went to the gym. We started off with about 30-40 lunges, then some squats followed by more lunges. This was then followed by some back exerices. Needless to say, 40 mins into the workout, I felt naueous, and actually had to vomit :bang:.

It was rather embarassing, but my trainer was totally understanding and told me to eat more before our next workout. So my question to you guys is what should I eat before going to the gym, how much should I eat and exactly when should I eat (immediately before going to the gym, an hr before the gym, etc..).
I would really appreciate any feedback on this.

Thanks
~Kulminati

first, ditch the cereal bars. in general.

how much you eat depends on how long after you are going to work out.

Well, I eat 2 fudge-dipped granola bars and some coffee 1 hr before I lift.:spank: In the past I've used steak or cottage cheese at different times.

I've found that certain things are sure to punish me. Juice or eggs are a bad choice for me in terms of inducing nausea during workouts.

In general, I'd say eat something bland and drink at least half a quart of water at least 45 mins before you workout, and you should be golden.

Eat a good meal 45min to 1 hour before your workout, just don't eat to big before your workout and then id say maybe have a protein shake or a high protein meal 1 hour after your workout.

I don't eat anything substantial within 60-90 minutes of a workout. During, I drink Gatorade, Powerade, or some self-made sugary concoction to help stave off nausea, even if I don't expect it to be a problem. Make sure that you're well-hydrated before you head to the gym.
