View Full Version : Air travel questions
chris0374 June 13th, 2007, 09:47 PM I have to go to Korea this year (DAMN IT!!! I DON'T WANT TO GO!!!). Yea, I have to. More like being forced to. The thing is, flying to Korea takes forever... I mean forever. If I remember correctly, the plane ride takes 24hours.... Maybe it was 12hours but you get the point. Anyways, I finally have a laptop and would like to bring it on board to pass the time. Here are my questions.
1) Is there a power source where I can plug in my laptop so I don't run out of battery? If there is, can I just use a regular power cord that comes with the laptop or have to get a special one?
2) Can you go online when you are in a plane?
BTW, I'm traveling via Korean Air (My parents' preference...). I tried to obtain this information from their website but I can't seem to find it.
Thanks!

That has got to be the weirdest looking plug I have ever seen. Brilliant, but weird. You're going to spend 6 of your hours trying to figure out which way to plug your laptop in hehe.
As for Internet? That's highly unlikely unless they somehow offer a pay service on the plane. I could see that but it would be $$$$$.
But why don't you want to go? I jump at the opportunity to go bounding off to other countries. I love traveling.

I used to live in Korea. Hell, I am Korean. I lived there for 10years. Korea really isn't that fascinating to me. Plus, the weather there during summer sucks. It's so hot and humid. Every household has a huge air conditioner but they don't even turn it on because of the electric bills.
I love traveling too... to places I haven't been before. I lived in Korea, and I visited 6 years ago. It wasn't very exciting. If I could pick places to travel, it'll be like Europe, Africa, and the Grand Canyon.
TarSeal June 15th, 2007, 06:56 PM You won't be able to get online. They don't allow any type of wireless activity on board a plane in flight- cell phone or CPU. Not that there would be a signal. They're afraid of interference I think. Seems like bullshit to me. They should offer connectivity somehow.
I doubt you'll be able to plug in. I fly alot and I've never seen an outlet on a plane. I didn't check that link however.
I never bother with my laptop onboard, it just seems like a pain in the ass to break that thing open. If I had good games on my laptop that would be a different story. I hate to have people see what I'm doing though, so I bought one of those 3M privacy screens. I still don't use my lappy though on a plane. If anything I play a little PSP. Buy a really good book, and try to get some sleep at some point. Maybe even take some Benadril if you must to cause drowsiness.
GET AN AISLE SEAT. VERY IMPORTANT!!!

When I travel I always bring the laptop, and I bring a spare charged battery with me and the AC adapter. I try and charge the battery in the laptop in the airport lounges, etc., so I only need enough batteries to get through the flight. Korea is a long flight though, so maybe more than one spare battery is the way to go.
Also - I usually have a fully charged PMP (Archos) with some podcasts and a ton of music, some TV shows. That thing could have music. That uses a lot less battery than the laptop for those things.
Devery June 16th, 2007, 05:24 PM I just flew on Delta yesterday and they have AC plugs under the seats, however they need a special adapter for the male cord plug-in.
MannishBoy June 17th, 2007, 11:40 AM I've used the power adapters under the seats on long overseas flights to watch DVDs. I think sometimes the airlines have diagrams of the particular planes with where the under seat plugs are, and also what type of plug (whether you'll need an adapter or not).
I read books for the most part, but a change up is definitely good at times to break the boredom.
Devery June 18th, 2007, 12:11 AM I agree that a book is a great idea because you just never know what in-flight movies will be showing. I was stuck with "Dirty Dancing" and some British-type flick called "Starter 10." My book came in very handy to say the least.
Quote that I just can't get outta my head...
