This is the place for off topic discussions, and i'm thinking of getting some more colognes- i've been using Acqa di gio (spelling?) for a while, getting sort of tired of it. I tried a sampler of a new cologne, and i thought hypnose homme (or something) was pretty good, but stronger.

It got me thinking- it'd be cool to have a few bottles of different things, so i dont tire from any one of them!

For the men: what colognes do you wear?
For the ladies: what colognes do notice? (in either a good way or a bad way, just indicate which!)

Also other problems related to it- sometimes just one squirt is too much, any way to deal with that?

What are you wearing the cologne for? There are different types of colognes: summer, winter, day/professional, night/romantic, etc.

Personally, I use Gucci Envy for night time/dates, and, well, I haven't found a subtle daytime/professional cologne I'm completely happy with.

I will say that I love Envy, and that the stuff lasts forever once you spray it on. It's strong. If you do buy it, be careful! I can still smell the stuff on my wrists the next morning in the shower.

The best thing to do is to go into a place that sells cologne and try a bunch of different stuff. First on a card, then, once one catches your eye (nose), spray a bit on your wrists to see how it reacts with your own natural scent. Then walk around the mall or whatever a bit. Don't try and do this if you have cold.

I'm not really a fan of cologne as most guys bathe in the stuff. :nono:
When they do that, I break out hives or choke because they stink.

I guess you could say I'm old fashioned in that regard. What gets my attention is a guy that is showered and clean. Of course there is alittle more to it than just being clean. How they carry themselves also has alot to do with it, but that isn't what you asked about.

Burberry London. love it. dont bathe in cologne as stated above, just enough to give off a scent may be what you need to draw someone in to smell it a little closer. my wife loves the burberry too.

Cool site M@! :tucool:

I have various scents that I use. I tend to wear cologne about 50% of the time whether at work or play. Some of them are:

Acqua di Gio - I know you mentioned you already are over this one, but I like it for spring/summer/tropical...it is a good standard so dont get rid of it.

Hugo - I use this more in the fall and winter as it is a heavier/spicier scent.

Liz Claiborne Sport-for men. I use this when I am doing anything athletic and want a dash of something to keep myself smelling decent. I really like this cologne and in fact think the scent is the best several hours after you apply it.

Smoked Ribs & Tri-Tip. Trust me. You'll smell delicious.

I used to use either Azarro or Chrome but I haven't worn cologne in probably 10 years.

There arent many colognes out there that I dislike, so I usually wear what the ladies like. Well actually, what my wife likes. Here's what I currently have as I dont usually like to wear the same each day:

Acqua Di Gio - You have this already though
Cool Water
Reaction by Kenneth Cole
Black by Kenneth Cole
Allure for men
Mania - Armani
Cerruti Image
M - Bananna Republic

Royal Copenhagen. Why? It works on my body, it is the one I always get complements on, bar none. It may not work with you. :tucool:

I use:

Chrome
Kenneth Cole Black
Burberry Brit
Banana Republic Black Walnut

Nothing overly exotic.

My girlfriend seems to approve of them all, and I like them. Depends on my mood if and what I wear. I don't wear stuff frequently enough for her tastes. :)

Heh, the google ad is "Perfumania.com" on this thread for me.

I use Hanae Mori ( i think that's how it is spelled)...it's pretty good stuff. I also hear good things about L'EAU D'ISSEY.

Acqua is basically chick crack. Girls love it, but the problem is that it's overused. Everyone has this one, so if ur going out on a first date, for example, this wouldn't really make an impression.

Old Spice or Brut

I've heard a lot of stuff about cool water.

I guess my quest is to find another "chick crack" haha. Dont expect men to give out all your secrets, but i live in buffalo, not much competition :)

I guess i havee to be like rtes and find something that just works for me, not anyone else for it to be awesome.

If the acqa is out-done, maybe i can hope in 10 years no one will use it/known about it :D

To Kenpo: is that list in any particular order? :p

And I only use one squirt, SOMETIMES two, to all the people saying dont take a bath in it. Plus i'm not rich enough to fill my bath tub up with cologne haha.

Also- apparently i have no smell for colognes- Acqua smells kinda plain and boring to me- maybe i'm just used to it.

I swear sometimes i just imagine a fragrance now, but i have no idea how to match it.

Seems like a really interesting topic- the most mysterious answeers have been the onee liners like : "curve"

Interesting thread guys (and gals), keep it goin'!

How do you spray it, for the situations where one spray is too much? I had a roommate who never put any cologne on directly. He always sprayed it outward and then walked through it, so that he never smelled like he had too much or overdid it.

I usually spray on my wrist, than rub my other wrist overe the other, over my whole bottom forearm, and than rub my wrist behing my ears, and rub forearms togeather a little bit more if the alcohol is not evaporated already.

 So true...you are right though it is way over worn...I smell it all the time when I am out and about on the weekends.

For a lighter scent I do exactly what your buddy did...just walk through it and it will be lightly and evenly distributed. If it is not obvious already it is also important that you use cologne prior to putting your shirt on as it first of all will not last as long or smell right if it is not directly on your skin and secondly the oils in some colognes will damage your shirt depending on the material and color.

This method is exactly what I do when I am going for a more bold amount of fragrance...I dont think I ever just spray it directly on myself.

I was told this is the correct way to do it:

Two sprays to the chest from about 12-14 inches away, such that the cologne doesn't bead on your chest.

One spray to a wrist, then press to the other wrist for about 15 seconds.

Adjust accordingly depending on the potency. For example, I only do one spray of Envy to my chest because it's pretty powerful. I also sometimes only do the "spray the air in front of me an walk through it" thing if I want my girlfriend to be the only person who'll notice it.

I also wouldn't be afraid to ask those around you if it's too strong, or what they think of the smell. It depends on the situation. You can get away with a lot more at, say, a night club than you can at a Sunday Matinee for the latest Pixar movie. HINT: Don't wear cologne to the Pixar movie.

Also, I'm going to use this thread because it's slightly on topic: What's with everyone at the gym drenching themselves in Axe? UGH. I don't care if you think girls like it. Maybe some do. Fine. Don't spray it ALL OVER SO THAT I CAN SMELL IT 20 MINUTES AFTER YOU'VE LEFT.

Not really. It depends on what I have planned for the day. Reaction and Black I usually use for work. The others moreso for nights and weekends. Bannana Republic is definately for casual wear or just hanging out.

Its tough to rank them but I think Im definately partial to the Reaction and Allure Homme.
