View Full Version : HELP: Eating at work
phaze June 5th, 2007, 08:48 AM I'm going to work in summer. Mowing the lawn with a trimmer. The work will be 6-8 hours long. While working I will eat nothing and that's the problem. I can't take fresh salad to work, because it'll go stale. I need some advice on what food to bring to work. That it ain't messy to carry around and it won't go stale quickly. And of course to provide me protein, carbs, fats etc. needed. I hope you understood.
Garvic June 5th, 2007, 09:07 AM what about a mini esky. That will work. Then you can have salad etc and tinned tuna etc. I wouldn't let chicken etc be in the esky all day though...
iceweaselsarecool June 5th, 2007, 09:32 AM granola bars
beef jerky
canned meats or veggies
MannishBoy June 5th, 2007, 10:16 AM Can't you carry a cooler?
I take a salad in a cooler all the time with grilled chicken. I use 2-3 blocks of blue ice to keep it cool al day long.
However, it's bulky, so there are better options if bulk is an issue. IWAC gave some good ones. Protein powder is another one, just add water. Nuts or fruits go with that depending on whether you want fats or carbs.

dluc June 5th, 2007, 06:23 PM A cooler is a good idea as MB suggested:tucool: Also, if you use a protein powder, have a shake with grinded oats and/or some almonds.

If you can't take a cooler with you - which would make things much easier - what about protein powder and oats/flax seeds/other food in 2 separate shakers. All you have to do is add water to the shaker, shake and drink.
FiDdyNiCk June 7th, 2007, 01:36 AM may not taste good but i carry the easy open tuna and serving almonds, just in case i need to sneak an unexpected meal in...

You quit because you couldn't find anything to eat while at work?

No. I quit because I hate that job. I already did that job the previous summer and I just can't make it pass this summer. I will try and find something else. About the eating problem... well, I can't just pack my food every day. For example: I purchase my food early in the morning but sometimes work starts earlier and all the stores are closed. And then I will just have to go to work hungry (maybe I could make something at home, but I doubt it). There aren't any shops nearby (only junk food). So that leaves me only 1-2 meals a day. Besides, it's nothing serious. I go to school anyways and it was a hard year at school. Little rest from the school won't hurt.

Dude, you gotta make it work. Everybody packs. Buy food in bulk and cook it the night before or even in a big cookfest one day a week. There are always obstacles, but few of them can't be overcome with a surplus of motivation.
