View Full Version : Packed lunch options
dso April 18th, 2004, 11:36 PM I got a job this summer working for a landscaping company. Mowing, trimming, stuff like that. Anyhow I gotta pack a lunch, and I usualy eat stuff that I heat up in the microwave for lunch, or cook chicken while I'm trying to lose fat. I was thinking 2 Tuna salad sandwich's (Tuna in water, FF mayo) and a fruit. Or 2 Egg Salad sandwich's (ff mayo) and a fruit. That's all I can think of, and that would get old after awhile. Any other options? Oh yea, anyone ever try to make an egg white salad? Is it any good (egg salad w/o the yoke)? Thanks...

karatetricker April 19th, 2004, 12:05 AM My lunches on the go are usually:
Tuna w/just2good mayo on 100% whole grain bread
or
Kashi Cereal (whichever one I choose for that day) and 1/2 cup cottage cheese
woeisemma April 19th, 2004, 01:00 AM I buy Starkist Lunch to go packs, they're great. Or I make tuna w/ Just2good mayo, Saralee Delightful Wheat bread, 1 slice american cheese, 1 low fat string cheese stick, serving hanover pretzels. The pretzels and cheese arent really healthy but they taste great and haven't effected my weightloss at all. My lunches are pretty boring but they are good!
Brice April 19th, 2004, 01:12 AM I have the same lunch everyday b/c I just don't have time to have a good, decent lunch:
2 slices of whole wheat bread
.25-.5 cups of Low Fat Cottage Cheese (spread on the bread)
6 Slices of No Fat Deli Style Turkey
take5 April 19th, 2004, 04:58 PM I eat 4 meals a day at work. Get teased for it, but it's all in good fun, especially now that a couple people are noticing some weight loss even though it seems like I'm constantly stuffing my face (and washing tupperware).
I eat that many because I go the gym before and after work (cardio and weights, respecitively), so I have to eat a lot at work or I'd never be able to do 5 meals a day.
Breakfast:
I bring a packet of instant plain oatmeal and a bowl. I use the milk at the office that's usually used for coffee and I have a box of raisins at my desk. Sometimes I'll pick up a boiled egg or banana at the local deli to compliment it.
Lunch:
Chicken breat, rice, veggies
OR
tuna salad
OR
turkey, veggies
Snack:
yogurt or fruit salad, or fruit with cottage cheese
Snack/meal/whatever:
small green salad
Sometimes I don't bring all this stuff and I hit the deli for their Asian salad bar, but if you can't do something like that you can still try to keep it varied, which is important to me.
I log it in fitday.com and then use that to decide what I eat for dinner when I get home (like if I should have more protein or something).
I also recommend some sort of portable cooler or box or something. I was using a book bag and had some tuna juice leak out- ew!

You know, me too. At work, I usually have my post-workout shake, then a mid-morning meal (1/2 bagel with egg beaters and cheese), then lunch (usually tuna with mustard on a whole wheat tortilla, piece of fruit, and some almonds), afternoon snack (fruit, almonds, etc), plus sometimes dinner if I am working late (usually chicken breast or salmon and some sort of frozen vegetable.)
Luckily, my office is RIGHT across from our little kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator, so it's pretty convenient.
But, the thing that amazes me is that SO many people comment on how I "eat all the time", "if I did that I'd gain 100 pounds," "that's way too much work preparing all that food", etc.
I try to tell them that all of my meals are relatively small, and that in total I probably eat no more calories than they do in a day (typically around 1900), but they just won't "buy it."
I also tell them that I prepare 4 or 5 days worth of meals in just a couple of hours (how hard is it to throw 5 frozen chicken breasts in the oven for 50 minutes, then put them in the refrigerator? Or to make a batch of tuna salad and put it into 4 small plastic containers? Throw the day's food in a little cooler before you walk out the door, and you're set.) But no, I'm the "crazy" food nazi!
They keep skipping breakfast, eating their "lean cuisine" frozen sodium bombs once a day at work, and wondering why they don't make any progress.
