View Full Version : Which weight loss supplements work?
brownguy January 21st, 2004, 04:06 PM Can anyone tell me which weight loss supplements have worked for them?
The only thing that worked for me was ephedrine but I had to stop it because of side effects. That and drinking coffee before my cardio.
Thanks
CuttinKing2183 January 21st, 2004, 04:08 PM I use a CVS-brand copy of Hydroxycut Ephedra-free....and I like it. It helped me lose fat before. It's called XtremeLean...
corbint January 21st, 2004, 04:44 PM most fat burners on the market these days are crap. there are things like 7-Keto that help raise T3 levels from your thyroid and help you metabolize fat faster. this can be purchases over the counter in most drug stores or supplement stores. you can also take green tea caps, some people get a thermogenic response from them. search around for the "anarchy stack", some people have received good results from it, but its pricey and a LOT of pills to be swallowing during the day...
but honestly, the best fat burner is a sound diet, good cardio and lifting routine, and patience!

Exactly!! Fat burners could be doing serious damage to your heart valves. Also many people gain pounds after getting off of them.
NME January 21st, 2004, 07:52 PM anarchy stack is far too costly for the results it provides (which I have been told are nothing amazing over and above the results from a good diet, cardio, and lifting regimen).
The best way to lose fat is to do plenty of cardio and maintain a calorie deficit in your diet (that's overly simplified, but I can build on that if anyone needs me to).
...I did find adipokinetix effective back when it existed (along with guggulbolic), but I was not nearly as determined as I am now. I am making better gains (that is, I'm losing more fat while maintaining more muscle) now than I ever did using the supplement.
corbint January 21st, 2004, 08:42 PM i agree bro, anarchy stack costs big bucks, and the amount of pills is insane. i think we both agree, the proper "fat burner" is getting off the couch and kicking butt in the gym!
brownguy January 22nd, 2004, 12:48 AM Thanks for the advice, all -- it's just what I was afraid of. Diet, cardio and weights it is then.
Cheers
vortex72 January 22nd, 2004, 08:25 PM The best thermo I've used (and I've used MANY) has been Metabadrine. It is an exact copy of the old Xenadrine RFA-1. It does have ephedrine though. Its no magic pill but for some reason the particular mix of ingredients it has seems to work the best for me. Many others have stated this on the bodybuilding.com forums as well. However, no fat burner will do anything for you unless your diet and exercise are in check. At best, they can help you get past a plateau and give a minor boost, but thats it!
There are some very dangerous drugs you can take that will make you burn fat, but they can also kill you. The hardcore pro bodybuilders take them. I wont mention them here.

BUMP!!! even the best fat burners on earth wil not work if yr diet, cardio N lifting sucks.. :bandana:
zamboni January 24th, 2004, 05:26 AM I'm stalking nimrod. He's 100% correct.
I've sold supplements for a living before and here's my take:
Hydroxycut
Xenadrine
Zantrex-3
are the highest volume products out their. They go out the quickest, and also have the smallest return rate % wise, for the store that I worked at. You'll also notice that those supplement companies are also the ones that market the most, and that's what this is all about. The active ingredients of all weight loss supplements are the same. Caffeine (from guarana or some other such herb) is the main ingredient in all of them. Among those 3, there really is no "best" supplement, its all about name brand, in my opinion. Each works differently for different people. You're best bet would be, buy frm a store that has a good return policy :) Totally serious on that too..
The best use for weight loss supplements is to kick start your workout. Some people need coffee to start their morning, some need diet pills to kick start their workout. If you've got motivation, just work your ass off and you'll get there.
zamboni January 24th, 2004, 05:31 AM I've seen just as many people who were happy with the stuff that costs 10 bucks per bottle as with the people who shelled out 40-50 bucks for the 3 aforementioned productions.
Let me re emphasize this, THERE IS NOT "BEST" product. Just because it worked for your friend, doesn't mean it will work for you. Just because it worked for 3 million other americans, doesn't mean it'll work for you. Likewise, just because one supplement worked for you doesn't mean it will work for all of your friends.
I've personally sold hundreds of these products and also talked to hundreds of people, first hand, one on one, about their results and the like. I know what I'm talking about...most of the time :)

Do people actually return supplements? I used to work at a gym that sold a small amount of supplements and have never seen anyone return them.
zamboni January 25th, 2004, 10:27 PM GNC's corporate policy is a 30 money back gurantee on every product in the store. Even if the product has been opened and there's only like 5% of it left on the bottom, and you return it 29 days later, for ANY reason at all.
That's corporate policy, but there are a lot of managers out there who will refuse returns, especially on the more expensive products, like NO2, but it is policy and in theory they should have to take it. Just keep your receipt around.
On all diet pills, off the top of my head, would get about 20% returns, give or take about 10% depending on the brand. Most complaints were, it didn't work, gave them stomach aches, and the like.
Evil Hx Coupe January 25th, 2004, 11:05 PM I used to take stackers 2 and after taking it for awhile I still looked the same because I relyed on the pill, didnt workout as hard as I do now and didnt watch my diet.
A healthy diet and exercise is all you need to get fit.
Teg4e January 25th, 2004, 11:38 PM I still have some Xenadrine with the ephedrine in it, but it makes me feel weird when I take it. Overall the feeling of diet pills is too strange to be worth it to me. Just do an extra 10 min. of cardio and you'll replace the effect of the diet pill, and be in better shape too.
