So long as it's within my caloric limits, is there any significant argument against a light beer on a rare occasion while cutting? A 24 oz coors light has 207 calories, 0 fat, 10 g carbs, and 1.5g protein. Doesn't sound bad to me. I'm not trying to get drunk, anyway.

My question is, will the alcohol negatively influence my progress? There are some nutritional benefits to a beer, I've read, such as chromium.

Beer will always slope the curve away from optimal but a light bear on rare occasion will have minimal effects. However, Is it that important that you drink a single beer while cutting?

I actually give myself one light beer per day. Amstel Light or Rock Green Light... they're around 90 cals. I lost 10 lbs the first month, so I don't think it's impacting me too much.

Edit: Oh, and a 24 ouncer is two beers, not one. ;)

Hey Ive found I can drink a 6 pack of Michelob Ultra, with no ill effects once a week: IF you make it a point to have NO chips, dips, pizza ect...while you are drinking and never (this is a big one) have the late night food binge after, like a Taco Bell feast, McDonalds...ahh I miss those days:drool:

Is it that important that you always or never do something when you do it?

My understanding is that when there is alcohol in the system, it nearly stops the liver's ability to metabolize fat (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/md19.htm) because it's busy metabolizing alcohol.

Two nights ago for me too. To compound the problem, I always eat a bunch of junk food after a lot of beer. :(

I drank probably a good 1000 calories... Wasn't a total waste, had a good time and didn't puke :D

I should've ate something with the booze, though!

The alcohol also wrecks your motivation..."Its 2am I'm drunk, lets go to Dennys! eh I'll work it off in the morning! (not)" The only time I've screwed my diet up in the last 3 months is when I drank.

When drunk, I don't think about food. I just drink more :P

 wierd thing... Yesterday morning, I weighed in at 155.5. Yesterday, half my calories were alchohol. This morning, after I ate (about 400 calories) and drank a liter of water, I thought to weigh myself... 153.6! Now, I would assume it was 100% water, but I see more definition in my chest and arms today! I usually lose weight when I drink... Don't know if I'll gain it back by the end of the day, though... I haven't weighed as little as I do now since elementary school!

weight loss after drinking is 99% of the time attributed to dehydration

I drink several beers/mixed drinks 1-2 times per week. I still manage to cut.

You're also a 150 pound, 24 year-old ectomorph.

I could never get cut and maintain my muscle while drinking that much.

Everyone is different.

Definitely not an ectomorph. But I agree, I have youth and genetics on my side. However, perhaps OP is a 24 year old as well, and being told he can't cut when it is in fact possible.

And I'm not the only person I know who drinks 1-2x/week and cuts successfully. Many of my friends do the same, of all different body types.

Also, while I know you'd never try it now, I'd wager a bet that you could cut just fine drinking one night per week. No, not to 6% body fat, but that's a very rare goal for your common fitness enthusiast.

For me, yes. When I am cutting I put alcohol in the same categorie as some of the foods that I enjoy on a normal basis. So I go all out and decide what I want more, the triggers or the fat loss. I am also not in my 20's anymore and I am also a former fat ass so I just use what works for me, you are probably in a different situation.

I think the main problem is the deyhdration and the lack of energy following a night of drinking, not the calories.

:guitar:"He liked the warm feeling but was tired of all the dehydration":guitar:

Light beer? Yuck.

Why, when a Guinness is only 135 calories and 9.8g carbs?

(Now, some of my more preferred beers go up significantly from that...I like IPAs and IIPAs very much.:D )

If a person feels the need to drink, they should explore the reasons for those feelings and develop mental tools for dealing with it, rather than simply giving in and imbibing.

I haven't had anything in a month and a half since I began cutting.

Each day goes by I care less and less if I ever drink again.

I didn't read the other responses, but why I am personally on a "SERIOUS" cut for a photoshoot or other professional appearance, all alcohol is off limits no matter what. Just doesn't fit in physically nor mentally to the approach I need to take in order to show up as the "SwoleCat" people have grown to expect.

Gotta set that professional example.
