I'm trying to average 2lbs/wk loss over the summer and thus far I'm not managing it. I'm tweaking my diet on a weekly basis to try and eliminate holes, etc., and I'm wondering how everyone feels about using muscle milk while on a cutting diet. I'm not really worried about adding mass during the process, I'm focusing more on getting to a clean slate then seeing where I want to go from there.

So what do ya think? Keep the muscle milk or switch to protein powder and fruit smoothies instead?

I would personally never use that while cutting, ever.

it depends what you're at right now.

i went from 25% bodyfat to 15% bodyfat while using muscle milk.

then i went from 15 to 10 by using my own version of a shake. 1 scoop muscle milk, 1 scoop pro complex.

now i'm going to be probably not getting muscle milk for next month and i'm ordering NITREAN as soon as i have the finances to do so.
because for the month of june i'm going to try and lose 3-4 lbs of fat, that should get me back down to 10% bodyfat or so. (i'm at about 11-12 right now) or maybe even below 10. we will see.

i use muscle milk only as a meal replacement, not as a protein supplement.

Nothing wrong with some muscle milk, regardless of your goals. Just keep it within your calorie needs and you'll be fine. Just know muscle milk is not some magic bullet. It is a fine supplement, but won't really aid in fat loss. It'd merely be for convenience (which is fine).

Muscle Milk is full of fat and has lots of sugar.

It's better to fill in the gaps with whole foods, but if you must use a shake, use Whey or something like it instead.

Just make sure it falls within calories and it shouldn't be a problem, although whole foods would be a lot more filling and metabolism stimulating.

Well, it was cheap and readily available.

But yeah, I think that I'm not getting enough bang for the buck and while I realize everything boils down to calories, I that it is going to get replaced by whole foods and/or whey smoothies. The high fat content kinda bugs me. It may keep lurking in my cabinet for a while as it seems to kill junk food cravings pretty well.

I found a low-calorie muscle milk at GNC, cookies and creme flavor. Tastes great, even in water! One serving (50g) has 195/6/11/25 (calories/fat/carbs/protein). I only use muscle milk in part of my pre and post workout shakes. I have a lower calorie whey shake for non lifting days.

You could also check out a different meal replacement like this one (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/mrp.html) from Optimum nutrition. Much less fat and sugar than most of the others out there and still manages to taste good comparitively. I've been using this for a while now.

I also like their protein powder a lot too for many of the same reasons. Also contains no aspartame.

I used muscle milk with great success on my cut. 2 scoops chocolate musclemilk+1.5 cups FF milk=heaven. It essentially eliminated all cravings I had for junk food/chocolate during my cut and was a delicious, 2 minute prep breakfast. Loved it and still do! For me, it's by far the best tasting stuff on the market!
