my grandparents felt that i deserved a laptop for getting my AA and deciding to continue my education and go after my bachelor's at USF.

so today as a complete surprise my dad said we were going to go pick me up a macbook. cause i'd been talking about them for a while.

well, i've got it all hooked up, turned on, and this is my first post on JSF with it. i love the thing. keyboard is excellent, everything is very fast and intuitive with it, even coming from windows. i'm amazed.

but the stupid thing will connect to EVERY wireless network in my neighborhood BUT the one at my house, even after i reset the settings to default. . .. soooo irritated. but i'll get it figured out. it's just hilarious.

nothing quite goes perfect, ever, but this thing is as close as possible to it.

specs on it.

13.3" white macbook.
2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo (dual core) processor
2GB ram
120gig harddrive
8x super drive dual layer dvd burner / cd r/w burner.
and i got the sweet bluetooth laser mouse for it as well. along with a bitchin super nerd protective backpack especially designed for the macbooks.

i'm still in shock. this is my first time ever owning a laptop.

now i just gotta figure out how to load windows on this thing so i can put solidworks on it amongst other things :-)

Nice one, I am a fellow-Macbook owner and I can tell you that you will grow to love it like no other gadget/computer you've ever had before.

For Windows, try out Parallels before you go with Boot camp, that way you can run Windows apps without rebooting. Personally I'd just try to get along with OS X first, because it's an absolutely awesome operating system

Enjoy it :)

h i L(OVE osx already!!

in fact, its now talking to my linksys router with no rpoblems!! lol i guess they just needed to get acquainted first.. lol.

the ONLY reason i want to run any sort of windows os is so i can use solidworks and a few other engineering programs on it for school. that's it.

i love osx otherwise.

parllel desktop, does it truly run quick? if so, ill look into it!!!!

Parallels runs plenty fast when you've got enough memory, and I see you've got 2GB there, so you should be fine.

That is hilarious. I'm getting a laptop too since I just finished high school and will be going to college. I'm so excited for my own laptop!!! Some people keep telling me to get a mac but I need windows for the upcoming Starcraft 2:D

I am really curious to know what in particular about the mac that made you say that. I know no computer other than the Dell and Compaq (the time where it was the "it" computer), so my knowledge of the MAC is limited, well other than the fact it has an annoying mouse :D

The machine itself is well-designed, ergonomically pleasing and it looks great too, of course. The real clincher for me is OS X though - everything about it is just so easy. It's hard to explain without a practical demonstration - suffice it to say that when I'm at work, on a Win XP machine, I sit there wishing that I was using OS X instead :)

Ahhh the mouse issue.
There single button mouse of old is now obsolete thanks to OS X. You can attach a two button mouse, and *gasp* right click! :tucool:
With the laptop though, you still have to hold down a key to perform the right click action, but, you can attach a mouse in a USB port and right click away.

I had the Mighty Mouse as well, I got rid of it though because it was crap. The right mouse button didn't work half the time, and the scroll wheel would get full of debris and then wouldn't work until you vigorously shook it about
In the end I gave up and replaced it with a USB wireless mouse - the Logitech VX revolution, and I love it.

Glad you're enjoying the Macbook Matt :) Now you've joined the Apple revolution, there's no turning back!

Congratulations on your gift, it seems like you are enjoying it a lot!!

Also, props to you on attaining your AA and continuing your education. You should have fun in school w/your new "toy".

Woo hoo!! Another Mac lover.

I have a white Macbook too. Mine was from the previous release, so it's only a Core Duo, but I too immediately upped the RAM to 2GB and as big of a freaking hard drive as I could squeeze in there.

I've been using OSX since it came out, and Macs before then. If you ever have any questions, let me know, I'll do my best to help.

My brother has a MacBook Pro and he installed Vista on it via Bootcamp. I have a couple of programs I can't get on a Mac, and I am interested in it to (I just don't want to pay another $200 for Windoze). I'm kinda waiting to see what happens with Leopard (the next version of OSX) and Bootcamp. We may not even need Parallels. Who knows?

Cool. This is exactly what I need to run as well. Wasn't sure if Solidworks would function correctly. How does parallels work? No reboot at all?

Actually, you can use the trackpad to right click among other things.

http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/1180/picture1fu6.png

You can use a two finger tap on the trackpad to right click. You can also hold two fingers and drag left/right or up/down to move the scrollbar within your apps (websites, text files, etc) in the same direction. :madpimp:

These options are found in System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Trackpad
