Hello all,

I noticed, in the thread about JFS's members favorite fat cutting foods, that Almonds are on the list. I looked up the nutrient facts on Almonds and they seem to have a high fat content in them. So I'm confused as to how they would help in losing fat. Could someone explain this for me?

Thanks!

Graham

Dietary fat is good. It is not as evil as the hype in the 90s led us to believe.

I often cut on up to 30-45% fat in my diet.

You need healthy fats in your diet for lots of hormonal reasons. It also helps your absorb some vitamins much better when fat is in the meal. Monounsaturated fats is excellent for cardiovascular health.

Good healthy fat comes from nuts, natural nut butters like peanut butter or almond butter (not the overly processed stuff), olive oil, flaxseed oil, avacados, fish oils, fatty fish, and even eggs in a limited amount. Even some saturated fat should be consumed, but keep it under control.

The problem is that fats are highly calorically dense, so watch portion sizes.

Walnuts are also good too they have 1g of omega 3's and a good amount of omega 6 as well per serving.

 Most nuts are good in various ways.

Peanuts, walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, brazil nuts.

Also seeds like seasame, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds are excellent.

Because you are likely under the notion that eating fat, makes you fat and that simply isn't the case.

Separately... or do you mean mixing the almonds in with the peanut butter? I think I might give that a try on a whole wheat sammich.... pb with some almonds thrown in.

Change up the boring pb sammich ever so slighty.

Hey thanks for the info guys. I guess I'll give them a try and not get to concerned about the fat content.

Just really make sure you watch how much you eat. Everytime I get almonds I find myself grabbing handfull after handfull cause the friggin' things are so good.

My heaven probably consists of a beach and as many almonds as I can eat.

They are used as a healthy fat in a dietary approach. Healthy fats are very key not only in losing fat, but for health purposes as well.

i think they can fit in great with a fat loss diet but only if you are disciplined enough to measure out or keep track of how many you have..it is far too easy to eat a handful or two more than you intended too..i never have the urge to have an extra tablespoon of Udos oil or more fish oil caps LOL :spaz:
