View Full Version : I work at McDonalds
doseyRob April 17th, 2004, 07:28 PM Evening all,
I need help removing the unneeded fat attached to me! I've been inspired by some of the posts and answers people have posted here on the forums but one of my main problems is that I work at McDonalds. Obviously being an employee I get the privilege of free food, mainly my 45 minute break.
I am 17, 6'0 and weight 234 pounds. At my age this is unacceptable to me and changes need to be made fast.
I have already made changes to my diet, moving from heavily portioned foods to small portions and drinking lots of fruit and water daily and I do expect to see some change Monday when I weight myself to see if I have gone down from 243 pounds.
But in the mean time, is there any advice about working at McDonalds or any other general info which I would be able to benefit from?
Rob
Jimbo April 17th, 2004, 08:08 PM A grilled chicken sandwich without the mayo, and a fruit and yogurt parfait would be some good choices.

I visited mcdonalds.com yesterday, and there you can see the nutritional numbers for all their products... It's bad, don't eat it! ;)
trainiac April 17th, 2004, 09:31 PM You can eat healthy at McDonalds. Get the Grilled Chicken Salad. Eat it with no dressing. I do it all the time, because I'm on the go. They taste good!
Do you get to make your own food? If I were going to eat one of their burgers, I'd press it between some thick paper towels to squeeze out and soak up half the fat first. Then I tear off pieces of the bun before I bite into it, so I only end up eating half the bun or less - it's just empty carbs.
Here's an even better idea - get a different job. Get away from that environment and the problem will go away. McDonalds isn't the only place that is hiring these days.

MickeyD's is the devil. I only eat any grilled chicken salad with the Balsamic Vinegrette sauce (Wow I didnt spell either of those right did I?)....
Anyways dont eat anything else please.. .be strong.. headstrong..
Jim April 17th, 2004, 09:40 PM It's not easy getting a part time job though. I've been trying for months.
Do what they said, thats about all the advice there is really.
M3kamikaze April 17th, 2004, 11:47 PM bring your own food. if you drive, get a small cooler and stick your food in there so it'll be nice and fresh when you go on break. making your own food and bringing it with you also saves money in the long run, expecially if you had to pay for the mickey d's food. it also gives you more choices, rather than grease grease grease.
Bat April 18th, 2004, 05:07 AM Did you guys know that here in the UK, McDonalds has had to withdraw the super-size option on meals because they "cause obesity"
ThatOldGuy April 18th, 2004, 07:22 AM I have two kids in the late teens/early 20s. I understand that part time jobs aren't always the easiest thing to find. My son was able to get a job at a major automotive tire store. Not only was the pay much better than McD, he lost about 30 lbs over the summer.
Assuming that you just can't or don't want to find another job, nothing says that you have to eat the Quarter Pounder with cheese and fries. Get the chicken sandwich and toss the bun. Eat the salads. McDonald's is not the healthiest place in the world but it's not impossible to eat a healthy meal there.
For what it's worth, I don't blame McDonald's at all for the food that they serve. They're in business to make money and they're only serving the crap that their customers demand. I don't blame McDonald's for the fattening of America any more that I blame liquor stores for alcoholism. Ultimately it's the consumer's responsibility to eat or drink in moderation.
doseyRob April 18th, 2004, 09:14 AM Ok, I will be eating the grilled chicken salads with a fruitbag and a bottle of water which will cut down on the fats.
Secondly, after talking to a friend, I will be running 5 miles every two days because I heard it is the best way to lose weight.
Vires April 18th, 2004, 09:52 AM 5 miles is easier said then done...you'll probably have to start out with less.

I second that. I'm reasonably fit and five miles isnt easy. By the end my body is rather sore. Start off with 2 miles and progress slowly and do it in the mornings on an empty stomach.

guava April 18th, 2004, 11:09 AM I've been working out more seriously for the last three months. My first go on the bike I did 12 minutes and I was proud. I just did 5 km on the treadmill, and I'm proud of that too! Every little bit counts.
teencraft April 18th, 2004, 02:36 PM I was reading that the McDonalds salads have more calories than a Big Mac.

If you get the fried chicken and then load it up with some 1000 island dressing, that could be true. Just use grilled chicken and lettuce. You can eat as much as you want and you'll be OK.
hardin April 18th, 2004, 10:44 PM Did you guys know that here in the UK, McDonalds has had to withdraw the super-size option on meals because they "cause obesity"
No surprise. They've announced that they're ending their super-size option over here at all restaurants by the end of this year.
It's upsetting to me because a super-size double-quarter pound burger meal is one of my favorite treats every couple of months. Now, because a few fat people don't want to accept the fact that they themselves are the reason that they're fat, it's going away. I hate people that can't take responsibility for their own mistakes.
Fudgam April 18th, 2004, 11:00 PM As mentioned, start eating the salads instead. But be wary of the salad dressings. They will probably be loaded with hydrogenated, rancid oils. So dont go over board with them.
haven97 April 19th, 2004, 11:47 AM I ate the calf cobb with grilled chicken once since I was at the airport and had no other choice. I got the balsimic dressing on it. I would check the sodium condent in those chicken breasts. Since I dont add salt to anything I could really taste it in the chicken. Otherwise it could be the best thing on the menu to eat or get the grilled chicken sandwich to change things up a bit.
Bookcat April 19th, 2004, 12:00 PM I don't want to get on a rant here...but ending the Supersize option is not going to make McDonald's appear as some sort of health convert of the fast food industry. People who choose to eat there, who want more fries, will simply order two mediums or two larges....Basically, if you've made the choice to eat starchy potatoes, fried in grease, then covered in salt...I don't think the 1 oz. fewer per serving is going to make a whole lot of difference couple with your double quarter pounder with cheese.
It's seems taht nobody wants to take responsibily for their actions and McDonalds' shouldn't have to limit, exclude anything from their menu...IT's not like they FORCE it upon the masses.
THE END!!!

They wouldn't cut it if it didn't make economic sense, one way or the other. I heard an interview with a McD's rep who stated that they are pulling the supersize option because people aren't buying them.
Now, that could be a publicity stunt to cut themselves a more health-wise image - maybe they are making money on the supersize. If it is, then they've decided that an investment in image is worth a hit in profits.
Either way, they're giving Americans what they want. What Americans seem to want, IMHO, is the appearance of health, or healthful eating, more than they actually care about the reality of health.
McDonald's is not being forced into anything. One way or the other, they're serving their audience quite astutely.

That is probably the main reason they did that. Two Large orders of fries or Two Med. orders of fries will cost more than a Super Size fry. They know Americans are fat so, they will buy two large's or two medium's. In the end, McDonalds wins.
ABguy April 19th, 2004, 10:15 PM I'd look for a job at the Salad Chef..... :spaz:
Obscura April 20th, 2004, 12:41 AM I'm a little late to the thread but my advice would be to seek employment elsewhere. There is nothing healthy under the golden arches. I noticed the McDonalds near my house was flying their flag at half staff today. Apparently the CEO died of a heart attack this morning. (April 19th, 2004)
When I was your age I worked at a drycleaners. Nothing to eat there except for what I brought for lunch. It was a temptaion free environment. I was also able to hit the books between customers on the slow days.
take5 April 20th, 2004, 02:15 PM Are people really brining up the dead CEO thing? I'm sorry, I think it's funny that people make the assumption that the CEO of one of the biggest corporations in the world eats fast food.

If you had to guess the cafeteria menu at McDonald's corporate headquarters what would you say?
Danny Noonan April 20th, 2004, 04:05 PM If you had to guess the cafeteria menu at McDonald's corporate headquarters what would you say? Umm, I'd say Wendy's...

It doesn't matter... CEO's are freakin' wealthy! If you had the kind of scratch, would you be eating in cafeterias?

The chairman of the company I work for is a Billionaire and he eats in the corporate cafeteria every day.
sublime_4_life April 20th, 2004, 07:51 PM from my experience working in fast food....
Seriously man if you dont have the willpower not to eat the Mickey D's while you are working there i would definately get a job somewhere else. I worked at Jack In the Box for a little over a year and needless to say i gained at least 10 lbs of FAT. I didnt notice it at first and then i started noticing my pants not fitting anymore and i was pretty heavy. At that time i DID NOT have the willpower not to eat there. It was just too easy to go over and make me a large eggnogg shake and drop some mozzarrela(sp?) sticks in the fryer and finish with a Spicy Chicken w/ cheese. Multiply this many times a day and it added up, quickly!
So if you are serious about losing weight you need to get yourself out of that enviroment and you will notice it is a lot easier to eat healthy when all that greasy food is sitting right in front of you (greasy yes, but its Oh SO GOOD lol) So thats just my suggestion if you cant seem to keep yourself from eating at work all the time...
InShape_Oval April 20th, 2004, 11:07 PM dont eat mc donalds, thers your first step
