I went to do my cardio yesterday and my trainer stopped me asked me what I did and if I was OK. Seeing my confused look she pointed at the backs of my calves. At the top of my calves, towards the inside and back of the knee, it looked as if I had some major bruising. It was deep purple/red color. There was no tenderness, and I felt fine throughout my cardio. I was just wonder if this was someting that any of you had experienced before.

Since I know the question will come up, refer to my journal for my workout plan:

Also, I have not consulted a physician yet manily due to the fact that there is no pain and it is not really affecting any daily activities. Also, my insurance sucks and I really don't want to fork out the $$$ to go to doc if this is something "normal" and do not need to worry about it.

well i didnt see anything really in your workout plan that could have caused the internal bleeding in your calves. it sounds like a ruptured capillary bed causeing the bleeding, it doesnt have to be tender or hurt to have it. i had this happen once to me, normally caused to the extremely high blood pressure when lifting. you might want to go to the doctor to be safe, could be an early sign of a vascular problem.

If it hasn't gotten better i would go to the doc.

I agree. It sounds like a vascular problem could be forming. If you do any contact sports or physical work it could have been a mild tweak to a joint that ruptured a vein (had this happen in my hands occasionally).

I would recommend going to a doctor if it ever happens again.

Also if you are lifting very heavy, I would back off on the weight and start doing alot more cardio to get your BP down, heart/vascular system stronger.
