Are the numbers and percentages (ie 40:40:20) based on calories or percentages?

Garvic May 17th, 2007, 03:36 AM Mate, I believe it is based on grams Archistrategos May 17th, 2007, 03:36 AM Marcus' nutrition sticky (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=1222) covers this, but macro breakdowns like 40:40:20 are generally percentages of your daily caloric intake. So if your daily intake is 2000 calories and you want 20% fat, 2000 x 0.2 = 400 calories. You can convert calories to grams if need be, which is useful since nutrition labels are usually in grams. 400 calories of fat = 44.4g. See the energy density table here, I remember it as "9447" (fat, protein, carb, alcohol): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie#Nutritional_and_food_labels Read the sticky if you haven't already, it will give you a solid basis for developing and understanding a nutrition plan. :tu: |
