What brand would you buy?

Thinking in terms of reliability,longevity,etc.

We have an Admiral side-by-side thats getting to be vintage.

I don't like side-by-sides.

Want one with freezer on top, crisper in the bottom, and one door, no fancy water-connected ice-maker.

But I hear they don't build 'em like they used to.

Admiral was good in it's day.

I have a Kenmore I bought 8 years ago that has never given me any problems. I did a quick review search on the web and whirlpool was on the top of the lists. How much do you want to spend?

I like bottom freezers. How often do you use the freezer?

Check the energy star [or whatever it's called] power use ratings. A low power one can pay for itself with the reduced power bill. It's not like hydro is going down in price.

I even saw a TV ad for Meile this week. But I wonder how easy it will be to find in your average shop

Interesting that this thread should pop up now. I'm in the market for a fridge myself. There's a Sears scratch 'n dent down the road where I tend to have good luck; you can save hundreds of dollars due to cosmetic defects that'll never be seen on an otherwise brand-new appliance. I'll probably end up with another Kenmore unless something drastic should sway me otherwise.

I would reccommend buying an "Energy Star" model, upfront it might cost alittle more, but over time they are less expensive. I have a Kenmore, I think Kenmore's are manufactured by Whirlpool, so basically it is the same thing.

We bought a Kenmore last year.

Nothing fancy about it. It's just a regular fridge with the freezer on the top, crisper drawers on the bottom, ect. The only reason we paid what we did was because it's stainless steel, which matches the new stove we bought a few months prior.

Yup. Whirlpool does make the nicer Kenmore's. Some of the cheaper ones are made by Galaxy or the company who makes Galaxy at least I think. I used to work at Sears a few years back and Kenmore gets my vote. There are better fridges out there, but Kenmore's give you a pretty good bang for the buck.
