View Full Version : Compulsive Eating???
JCBlue May 12th, 2007, 08:48 PM I began really working out a couple of weeks ago. I'm overweight, but I want to tone up abit. Since then, I've noticed I'm always eating. I'm not hungry when I eat, but I don't feel full, and after I eat I feel no different. I think my calorie intake is half again what it was. Is this going to hinder my fitness? I've been primarly doing anarobic exercises because I have no cardiovascular health. If i do some cardio, will that stop my eating? Why do I always want to eat now and what do I do about it?
Thanks
HevyMetal May 12th, 2007, 11:01 PM What do you always want to eat?
Start hitting the water big time. Because sometimes our bodies send us mixed signals. We get hunger pangs but actually it is water we require.
You say "I'm not hungry when I eat".....so what triggers your desire to eat?
You could also try increasing your protein intake.
No.....doing cardio will not necessarily curb your hunger pangs.
What exactly do you do for anaerobic workouts?
You could also be doing too much too soon which might have put you in a "restless' state thereby using food as comfort.
Zilla May 12th, 2007, 11:04 PM The majority around here eats anywhere from 5-7 times a day. This is not considered compulsive because smaller meals spread out over the course of the day is better than eating 2-3 big meals, although some have successfully lost weight by doing just that.
What are you eating and how often?
This is just a guess on my part, but it sounds like you're eating out of boredom? Or possibly something else?
Exercise will not reduce your hunger. If anything, it could very increase your appetite because if you eat a clean diet, the body learns to burn fuel ( food ) in a more efficient manner which is why people eat between 5-7 times a day. It keeps the metabolism fired all day long.
EDIT: HevyMetal beat me with the reply that asks the same things. Feel free to ignore my redundant questions.
JCBlue May 12th, 2007, 11:23 PM I'm eating really whatever's around. There are so many healthy foods, I don't yet how to cater them to my needs specifically. I've eaten a lot of soups and t.v. dinners. Neither of those hold much nutritinal value, I'm sure, but I'm taking multivitamins now.
As far as the exercises I'm doing: nothing fancy. I'm doing basic squats, push ups and odd "contort your body in this manner and move it like so to work this muscle you didn't know existed" workouts. If I use weights it's five pounds at the most.
I'm out in Arizona, and we just pushed over 100 degrees today, so being dehyradated is likely, but even when I am drinking plenty, I'll still eat.
I've read a lot on this site about the importance of protien, but I'm practically a vegitarian. Should I try suppliments of some sort? How would that help this, though?
Though it is uplifting to hear that it may be a good thing and that I may be burning it off.
By the way, Zilla, I appriciate your comment very much too.
HevyMetal May 13th, 2007, 12:11 AM Maybe you're not eating the right things.
T.V. dinners?...I rest my case.
Try eating more raw fruit and raw veggies.
Also you may not be getting the correct fats.
eat nuts,olive oil,flax seed,eggs, salmon.
Eating lots of processed foods and simple sugars? These will increase your appetite even if you eaten to fullness.
Stay away from carbonated soft drinks (like "pop").
Yes...I would include proteins in your diet. If you are "vegan" you can still eat Whey or eggs or egg whites. Or you can combine other forms of proteins to get the complete amino acid profile.
Sometimes excessive hunger is caused by your body continually requesting a nutrient it isn't getting.
JCBlue May 13th, 2007, 12:53 AM Eak! Eating healthy?! Why don't you just ask me to do something logical or smart. Sheesh, people ask so much of me
You're right. I figured that taking vitamins and working out would work just as well as eating well, but I guess not. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks for your help
Zilla May 13th, 2007, 05:13 AM There are people out there that can eat junkfood and still get lean and big ( of they want to), however, most of the population has to work for it. Either they carry too much fat, or they are naturally thin which means they have to work on packing lean mass on and maintaining it.
Whatever your calling is in terms of genetics, it's always better to eat clean. You'll feel better, look better, have more energy, ect.
Once you come up with a eating plan, post it and members here will help you fine tune it if it needs it.
FYI- Vitamins are only a supplement that work as long as long your diet is good. They'll not a cure all as lots of companies would like you to believe.
