Thanks for the updates :D

sorry, i rush my posts sometimes... i get pulled away from my desk very often. i was just saying that those people who only have 1 post to their name are being very good about updating their progress while people who have been around the forums fore a while with many posts have been baaaaaad. :spank:

And guess what we're in the middle of May, Halfway through the challenge!

Time flies.........:gl:

Thanks for noticing! ;) I took that picture yesterday. The previous one was taken in March.

Buttersweet go go go! You were exhausted the day before so it's obvious that your system is down. Keep going.. we're halfway there! :jumping:

Sunday 13th May: .....I just couldn't repress the sugar craving. Ah well, I'll suck it up and won't lose another point :)

Tuesday 15th May: ......I'm really looking forward to getting in the gym tomorrow evening and trying to apply some of the tips people gave me on my squat/RDL form.

The sugar craving thing was what I was trying to comment on the other day.. I have it too :P.

And what are the tips on squat? I'm not good with legs maybe I can use some tips. :D Would be great if you can share the info. What is RDL form? Thanks!

May 15: [96] - Today went relatively well until i did squats at the gym at which point i hurt my knee and had to stop doing leg exercises to avoid hurting myself further.

May 14 2007 Hey, I have to say, I am extremely proud of my friend Hambo. I asked him to enter into the April Challenge and I think it took him a bit to find his niche and now he's more focused then me and doing so well! Go Hambo!:tu: Well, we are half way through the month. It's fair to say I'm not extremely proud of my lack of focus. :o I am however focused on some other serious things. I have a job interview today that may make me more money and switch careers.

Best of luck for your career change. I'm starting new one too next week. :D ;)

I can feel it inside, my body wanting to release stress and feel better, you know that feeling you get after a really good workout! :p It will kick-off my next 2 weeks in the right pace! :)

HA! Yes it is! :p Now that I told everyone I was going to the gym no matter what last night......

OK, Ok...I didn't make it, BUT, I lost my car key last night at dinner! 2-1/2 hours later and $135.00 to have a lock-smith guy come mobile to my car and make me new keys........it SUCKED!!

I was drained by then. I know, excuses, excuses....give it to me.
New goal....to make it to the pool on my lunch hour to swim. :tu:

OH, and the job interview went GREAT!!!! I'm in the middle of negotiations and then deciding. :D

Thanks! You're sweet! :dreamy: So far, so good, but now I'm about to start tankin'. I don't expect to make it to the gym very much in the next few weeks. Although moving is sweaty, bust-ass work, it's not the deliberate, controlled lifting that I need, but it needs to get done. The best I can hope for is to lose a few pounds behind the deal.

Is music with lyrics or without better to be used while exercising? News? I used to listen to Anthony Robbins but now I got bore with it. Esp, after I saw him on video.... too much gestures as to too looking unrealistic.

:confused:interesting... Outdoor sounds great. But it'll be good to be able to get the amount of calories spent as well. Heart-rate monitor are rather expensive so I'm reading them off the machine.

People watching sounds good too, I'm working out at home and interval training don't leave time for people watching :p But maybe 1-yr membership at the gym might be the solution to boredom.

Thanks Falhurk & Rise for the suggestions. :tu:

Is music with lyrics or without better to be used while exercising?Any music that puts you in a high mood is good. For lifting, it can be any style but for cardio anything that can make you dance while on treadmill or elliptical is a boredom killer. Since you're working out from home, set up a TV/DVD player and watch a movie while you're working out. Time will pass so fast...

 yuck:D well, we washed Jimmy as soon as he got better, and we don't let him out because there are other cats around the building, that have probably never seen a vet. but he's used to going out so that might be the problem.
the food trick doesn't work since he won't touch anything older than 5 hours, so i would still have to get up and pour some more food just to trick him into eating what's left from the previous evening.
actually, the only thing he's proved to be useful for is catching all sorts of flies:eek::)
and the thing is, my boyfriend who wanted him in the first place never really hears him at night:mad: i don't know what to do. closing him in the room (with his toilette and water and food) seems too cruel:confused: but i don't really see any other option. AND, while we're at home and awake, he sleeps! he's just playing with me, he probably knows i didn't want him here:D

Thanks for the all the support everyone!
I may have to get my girlfriend to take pictures this weekend so I can compare them to my "before" ones because for some reason I'm not seeing a 40lb difference when I run from looking at the pics on my PC to the bathroom mirror to compare.. But I'm sure once I got pictures side by side I would be able to see it quite drastically.

Just wondering, are you ectomorph?
Not meant to be rude, but what would make you think that?

I'm pretty sure I'm an endomorph because I have been slightly chubby for most of my life..... then through a very strict 5 year diet of fast food, frozen pizza, potato chips and coke I managed to become a full blown fat ass. Either way I'm convinced I can make my body into whatever I want it to be, regardless of type.

I've tried that diet. You have to be meticulous. You cannot miss any meals like fries and/or hamburgers. Also, only one cheat meal a week like chicken with salad is allowed. I've managed to gain a solid 10kgs fat in 3 or 4 months on it :tucool:

hmm.... you mentioned that 5 years ago you were 180lbs and now you're under 200 which my rough guess was more than180lbs. And you mentioned about the pants fitting you better than before.

So I thought you were thinner than now and you sort of filling into your pants better due to better muscles definitions and such.

Ok my bad.... I seemed to have left out a vital piece of the puzzle on this one. I was indeed 180lbs about 5 years ago, but I was also 240lbs about 3.5 months ago ;)

Oh boy you aren't kidding! one week while on that diet I ate 2 chicken breasts and some fresh veggies.... it almost made me feel healthy so I quickly ate a couple cheese burgers, some fries, some coke, then later when my heart burn came back I snacked on some potato chips to "help calm my heart burn" :D

i've been dreaming of sweet stuff for the last few days, and i feel like i'm on the edge of breaking down completely. but i want to believe it's just the lack of sleep and PMS. thank god there's only one week left and i was really good the first part of the challenge, since i'd be under 80 points by the end:) hope i manage to control myself until the end.

Haha I kicked the cakes ass!
After hacking it up into pieces and putting it into a bunch of small plastic containers, I sent it to work with Melissa last night so that a herd of fat people she works with could consume it. I laughed to myself all night about that plan.... then in the morning she told me they were all teasing her cause "the skinny girl brought cheese cake for all the fat girls".... so I was like oh shit, they didn't take the bait, but sure enough after those comments they consumed the rest of the evil cake :neener:

It must be the mid month slump or something, cause I have also been craving everything recently. I swear its taking quite a bit of willpower to fill up a shopping cart with chocolate then sit in a dark alley by myself eating it all night.... these things usually pass though, so hopefully soon.

I might share those pics.........;)

And thanks for the congrats!

You've made a fatal dietary error. :nono:
With a large meal like that, you need diet coke. If you don't, people are bound to stare you down at the McDonalds.

I had an experience today that did wonders for steeling my resolve.

I was carrying several heavy boxes in my car when someone several cars ahead slammed on the brakes. Everyone ahead of me slammed on their brakes, and so did I. I knew I was in trouble, because I heard boxes begin to slide - fast! In an instant I thought, "That box is going to go right through my windshield!". I reached back with my right hand, and STOPPED it - a 65lb box! I hurt the heel of my hand and my shoulder a little bit, but I was delighted that I was able to do it. I would not have been able to do that six months ago, no way in hell. I had to flex in the mirror for a little bit when I arrived.

I'm going to the sporting goods store tomorrow and get some more discs for my dumb-bells. :D

I was watching "The Unit" yesterday and it sort of inspires me a bit as the military people really needs all the fitness they can get to do whatever is require of them.

Hey folks!

Been a few days since I've posted. I started to slip and now I'm angry!! Already 3/4ths of the way through the month and I've decided that the only way to keep myself focused is to increase the intensity of my program.

So,

My old routine looked something like:

Monday: Weights (PM), 30-60 minute swim (AM or PM), 30+ min bike
Tuesday: 30-60 minute swim (AM or PM), 30+ min bike, 30 min elliptical
Wednesday: Weights (PM), 30-60 minute swim (AM or PM), 30+ min bike
Thursday: 30-60 minute swim (AM or PM), 30+ min bike, 30 min elliptical
Friday: Weights (PM), 30-60 minute swim (AM or PM), 30+ min bike
Saturday: 30-60 minute swim (AM or PM), 60+ min bike, 30 min elliptical
Sunday: 30-60 minute swim (AM or PM), 60+ min bike, 30 min elliptical

My new routine:

Monday: 30 min bike (AM), 30 min elliptical (AM), Weights (PM), 60-90 minute swim (PM), 30 min bike (PM)
Tuesday:30 min bike (AM), 30 min elliptical (AM), Weights (PM), 60-90 minute swim (PM), 30 min bike (PM)
Wednesday: 30 min bike (AM), 30-60 minute swim (AM), 30 min elliptical (PM), 60-90 minute swim (PM) 30 min bike (PM)
Thursday: 30 min bike (AM), 30 min elliptical (AM), Weights (PM), 60-90 minute swim (PM), 30 min bike (PM)
Friday: 30 min bike (AM), 30 min elliptical (AM), Weights (PM), 60-90 minute swim (PM), 30 min bike (PM)
Saturday: 30 min bike (AM), 60-120 minute swim (AM), 30 min elliptical (PM), 30 min bike (PM)
Sunday: 30 min bike (AM), 60-120 minute swim (AM), 30 min elliptical (PM), 30 min bike (PM)

Wish me luck!! Today was day 1, feel great after my first bike, swim, elliptical.

So last night after my intense 8X3 upper body workout I decided to try and deadlift something heavy. To say the least I was quite impressed, I guess there is some fact behind "tall people with long limbs deadlift better and suck at squatting" because even after an hour of lifting/pushing/pulling weights at my 5rm I was able to deadlift 220lbs 4 times. As a comparison I can only squat 130lbs 3 times at the beginning of my workout when im fresh.

Something about the chalk, the strain, the sound 220lbs makes when it hits the ground.... I think I have a power lifters mentality, cause thats the most fun I have had at the gym in.... probably forever. I would probably make a great powerlifter if I wasn't so weak and vain.

HIIT isn't fair. It never gets easier because your 100% just gets higher and higher and faster and harder. Jesus. I'm not even doing proper HIIT sessions yet and they're kicking my arse.

But ten minutes after the last sprint session? Feels goooooood. Post orgasmic. When can I do it again?
-------------------
Also. Today's session brought back an eternal question --why is it that lounging groups of teenage boys are completely unable to see a girl running without making bow-chicka-bow-wow noises and catcalls? Especially if they are on the porky side?

Older, wiser men of JSF, tell me:

anyways, i'm kind of down, because my end of the May challenge turned into a disaster. well, i can't say i'm upset about it, i just don't want it to happen again. ok, so, please be kind and help me figure out what happened. if you have the time, go through my posts from around the 15th of May. so, here are the things that were different in May and might have caused the problem:
1. new job
2. cat - sleep deprivation
3. experimenting with less carbs - more protein - resulted in enormous cravings for anything sweet by the end of the month
4. higher temperature than normal for May

so, i was tired all the time, i couldn't breathe at boxing, couldn't concentrate to remember the kicks and steps, lifting was poor, so i did a lot of isolated exercises, all in all - last two weeks were shitty.
i should probably wait for the end of the month to take my measurements and see if there was any progress, but i don't feel like i've made any.
i'm getting rid of the cat this week, so i'll be having my sleep again, and i think half the problem will be solved. there's nothing i can do about the heat, but drink more mineral water, and maybe take some magnesium. i will definitely go back to my old diet that worked even before i started lifting, and will worry more about calorie intake, than the percentage of what i ate. June is the last boxing month before the summer season, so i'll hit hard every session. i kind of look forward to July when it will be replaced by heavy lifting in the gym.
i'm sick of experimenting, but i said this would be for the long run, so...
anyways, any comments, suggestions? questions?
oh, and bare with me, i had only 2 hours of sleep last night. bloody cat:mad:

3. USE YOUR CHEAT DAYS WISELY AND TAKE SLOW STEPS. DON'T CUT OUT CARBS RIGHT AWAY BUT DO IT PROGRESSIVELY.
4. DRINK COLD WATER. OTHER THAN THAT, SUMMER IS COMING. NOT MUCH YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT

i'm getting rid of the cat this week, so i'll be having my sleep again, and i think half the problem will be solved.

my track coach used to always say: just because you can see the finish line doesn't mean you can let up, now is the time to push and throw in everything you've got left. run past the finish line to make sure you didn't cheat yourself and know that you gave it your all.

ok, he didn't say that exactly, but that was what he meant :)

my track coach used to always say: just because you can see the finish line doesn't mean you can let up, now is the time to push and throw in everything you've got left. run past the finish line to make sure you didn't cheat yourself and know that you gave it your all.

awwww, that's nice:neener::)

anyways, i didn't do that, i just went back to the routine that worked for me in April before the end of the May's challenge and feel better already. i don't think i'm up to experimenting again before autumn. i'll just stick to the original plan, make small improvements over the weeks in my diet and exercise, and be very, very patient. better than to lead myself to huge disappointment and give this whole thing up.
:flex:

May 23: I got married through the court today. I didn't think it would have been smart of me to say "Hey now I'm going to go do chest day" right after "I do". We had dinner, another cheat meal and a missed workout. I'll get it in tomorrow.

According to my scale, I'm 181. That means I've lost 5.5lbs this month and I have 1lb to go to reach my goal for the month. I think I can get it these next two days.

I'm not overly happy at this point, but I made progress. Next month I've got to step up my cardio. I did each cardio workout I had scheduled, but there were days I know I didn't give it 80% effort, much less 100% because of how I felt. I just need to ratchet up my cardio interest to the same level of interest I have with the weights. Had I been focused 100% with cardio, I would probably be sitting at 177lbs or so. Not too huge of a change, but the results would have matched the effort. :bang:

5.5 pounds is nothing to scoff at bud. Plus, you're all ready to give it a great shot next month!

I'm not posting my numbers until tomorrow or Thursday. :nope: But, I'm very, very happy :)

Yeah, I just did the math and I pretty much lost about 3% of my bodyweight this month. Since the first of the year, I'm down about 9% from where I started. I guess I should be happier. I'm healthier and feel much better than I did just five months ago. :D

Great job on this month's challenge, BTW. Your enthusiasm has been great to feed off of. :tu:

Thanks man!! I didn't really think that I was being helpful (mostly thought I was annoying people). But, I'm thinking that next month is going to be "high gear" for me. Four weeks of absolute dedication and determination. Especially after the results I've seen this far.

Not the best of months. I dropped my body fat 1.15%, gained 1 pound of muscle, and lost 3.61 pounds of fat. This is all trending in the right direction, but not fast enough. Time to tighten up the diet and increase the cardio.

hello there k3vb0. My progress is slow too but fats are so hard to lose and you've lost 3lbs+. Congrats! :tu:

Lost 3 lbs, which was 5 lbs from my goal. Still happy :D

Hi sumisan. Am happy for your loss (weight)! All the best for June.

MAY 31
The official end of this challenge is here, and although I kind of flaked out at the end, I'm still well-pleased. I lost a total of 8 pounds, and went down a waist-size. [88]

8 pounds there! :tu:

GOAL: loose 13 pds, or 8% BF, whichever comes first

UPDATE: Well I only lost 3 pounds this whole month. I am not very happy about that, but I am still making great progress in my fat loss and even a little muscle gain. The main number that really sticks out is the drop in body fat %. Dropping 4% in one month is pretty good, I think. I gained a 1/4 " in my arms and calves. But lost 1/4" in my chest, 1" off of my thighs, and 1 1/2 " off of my waist. The 1 1/2 inches off of my waist is what I am most excited about. I still have at least 4 more inches to lose there.

STARTING STATS
WEIGHT: 193
BODY FAT: 18%
ARMS: 14.5"
CALVES: 15"
CHEST: 44.25"

Still, your fat loss of 4% is just GREAT :tu:

RESULTS:
I am thrilled about this month. I have started/failed/started/failed soooo many times over the past few years which allowed me to balloon up to 246. This time, I have committed really deep down and am going to make my ultimate goal of seeing my abs.. I KNOW they're there! I ended up losing 11.5lbs for the month, but actually started two days earlier on April 29th at 246 which puts my total weight loss at 17lbs! For the May challenge in inches, I lost 3-inches from my waist and also 3-inches from my chest which went a long way to get rid of my MOOBS! After I get through the June 100 challenge, I will post pictures. Thanks to everyone for all the inspiration I've gotten from this site virtually every day!

Congrats, that's awesome! :tu: All the best for June.

My results for the May Challenge:

Bodyweight: 186.5 lbs 5/1/2007
Bodyweight: 184 lbs 5/9/2007
Bodyweight: 182 lbs 5/23/2007
Bodyweight: 180.5 lbs 6/1/2007

I lost 6 lbs. If I can repeat this in June, I'll be at my target weight of 175, down from my starting weight of 196 at the start of March. That'd be 19lbs in four months!

I finished the challenge with 90 points. I lost 6 points due to missing updates. Grrrr...

I'll be taking part in the June challenge, but will be gone from the 2nd-9th, so no updates for me during that time. I'll keep a log and will report when I get back.

Congrats to everyone who saw the challenge through! The final week or so was the hardest, but you did it!!! :tu:
