Hi i've been reading posts on this forum for quite a long time now and did'nt feel the need to post until recently. I've changed my eating habits a lots in the past 3 or 4 months and everything was going great. I went from 197 with 23.5% to 180 and 17.5%.

I've been losing weight consistently for the past couple of months but for the last week or 2 i've stayed at the same weight. This is bit scary considering that i'm a rock climber and that my weight training consist of rock climbing. Finger injury will leave me out of climbing for at least 2 to 4 weeks. Ok end of background, i'm stuck at a plateau and would like to kick start my weight loss again. I'm definitly considering running again because it's spring and it's hotter outside ( i live in quebec ). Anybody has any advice, im 6 feet tall and 181 at the moment, no more weight training and not much cardio at the time.

Thanks in advance, and thanks to john for being such an inspiration

P.S. sorry for the english i'm a french canadian.

I have very simple advice: start doing cardio and weightlifting. Congrats on your success so far but you have made it into the hard territory now. You don't have a lot left to lose but it's going to require a lot more effort to lose it. Look at everything you're eating and see if you can't tighten your diet up a little more. Jumping into cardio and weightlifting should break this plateau fairly easily, and then you can begin to actively pursue your goal agian. Good luck!

YOu have to trick your body. In order to do so you have to variate yout intensity of cardio sessions, different cardio excersises (may be changing to eliptical and/or stepclimber machine) and reevaluate your diet.
Plateau means that your body is used to what you are doing. YOu have to change what you are doing. I know it is simple to say, but I have overcome 4 plateaus already, so I know what I am talking about (within 2 years and 3 months I went from 300 lbs to 170 lbs and dropping). Besides, the closer you are to your goal weight the harder it is to lose it. So you have to stick to reaching your goal.
Good luck. :gl:

PS: Also, do your cardio (even jogging is good) for 20-25 minutes first thing in the morning on empty stomach. Then weight an hour before you eat something. And about an hour before you go to bed, eat some slow burning protein like cottage cheese.

As a fellow climber, I would not advise weight training with a damaged finger. I don't know how you did the finger injury (or what it is) but your #1 priority has got to be finding the training/climbing strategy that will avoid finger injuries. Also, loosing weight fast is great, but keeping it off is a different matter. Hopefully climbing will be a big motivation, but my guess is that your not climbing 5.12 (or probably 5.11) in which case although you will notice great gains by loosing weight, increasing technique and finger strength should also be high on the priority list. (If you are climbing 5.12 disregard my comments because you have a completely different body than myself - and you're really strong!)

My advise would be to maintain weight for a month or so, rest the finger, get used to a maintaining diet, then start again with the climbing workouts and diet. Try to figure out what routine you need to do to avoid injury (easier said than done). BTW At your BF % I was able to gain strength and loose weight at the same time. Not, however, at the pace of 15 lb / 4 months! I've gone from 200+ lb to 152 lb and significantly increased climbing muscles, but it took 4 years and a lot of plateaus. I'm still going and on a 3 month plateau. I really believe to make it last your body needs time to adjust to the new composition. I found the trick is not to gain too much weight in the plateaus.
