Hi,

As i've been working out I've obviously starting looking at my physique more, i've noticed that my right bicep/tricep looks a lot different from my left, measurments indicate about by 0.5cm. Additonally my right lat bulges out slightly more as well. I got my girlfriends opinion and she notices it too, so it's not in my head.

I also notice when I do a seated shoulder press (i think thats what it's called) with dumbells as i near the end of a set and am having too push the last few out, i seem to sort of twist to favour my right. When this happens now, i drop the weight down a bit so I can complete my sets with better form.

So my question is, should i just carry on as i am now and make sure the left gets an equal workout, or should i take some steps to work my left side harder?

I am right handed and have just started working out (for about 2.5 weeks now) and do a full body workout 4 days a week with cardio.

Cheers,

Yes Muzz, what you've described is perfectly normal. Once you have more training years under your belt, everything will start to balance out including coordination on certain movements as well as strength imbalances.

For the record, my right bicep is larger than my left, my left quad is larger than my right (and more cut when I diet down), my left lat pops out more than my right, and my left medial delt is thicker than the right. However my strength is pretty balanced out regarding both sides of my body. (It wasn't always). Are all these physical discrepencies normal ?? Yes. Am I concerned or worried?? No :)

Nice one, good to hear! :tucool:

As long as strenght/co-ordination balances out over time I'll be happy, I was mainly just worried I could make things worse by doing nothing.

Normal. Also quite hard to correct. At one point, for at least 6 months, I did far more work on the "weak" side of my body than the strong and it made 100%, undeniable no difference whatsoever. When lifting, do your best to even out the movement and always stop when the weak side fails, but otherwise simply get used to it.

In my case my right bicep is bigger, my right calf is bigger, my left quad is bigger (perhaps due to protecting a questionable knee joint on the right, subconsciously).

Imbalancing can not only cause muscular issues but also joint ones. I am fairly sure an imbalance is why I have a bad right knee as opposed to any trauma and also I believe it's why when I swim I'm more liable to get pain in my left shoulder; I simply am not as fluid on that side...something I am continually working on.

Even though you can tell this when standing in the mirror for a while, most people will not unless you specifically ask them to confirm.
