Relative beginner lifter. Looking to get a little stronger, get leaner. 5'11" @ 197 lbs and @ 23% BF. Eat around 2400 calories.

3 x week. Total body.

Squats 3 x 8-12
Deadlift 3 x 8-12
BB Row 3 x 8-12
Bench press 3 x 8-12
Military press 3 x 8-12
Bicep curls 3 x 8-12
Tricep ext 3 x 8-12

If I can't do 8 on the last set, I decrease the weight. If I can do more than 12 on the last set, I increase the weight.

HIIT 3 x week.

I want to do this at least through the summer. If I can trim down enough, I want to do Rippetoe's starting strength in the fall and try to bulk a little.

This should do the trick, right? Just want to keep it simple, yet effective. Can't do dips or pull ups as I am currently lifting at home.

Hi :)

I think your plan is good. A cracking choice of excercises to use, may I add :tucool: As you say, simple yet effective.

My only concern is that it might be a little bit too CNS intensive, espicially if you are going to faliure a lot. Squats and Deads on the same day can be hard enough once in a blue moon, let alone three times a week. Give it a try, but please listen to your body. If it is too much, dont be too stuborn to change the program round a bit.

Also, if your progress plateaus or you simply get bored with the routine before the end of the summer is up, change things up -- don't stick to it just because thats what you decided. Four months is quite a while to do a routine without much variety.
