View Full Version : What's the deal with fiber?

I noticed that the Kashi cereals nutrition labels don't count the carb calories from fiber. I also know the Atkins diet is notorious for pushing the "net carbs" which is Total Carbs - Fiber.

When logging your daily intake, should you make sure that the grams of fiber * 4 is taken out of the total intake for the day or should it still be logged?

Just wondering because I average 35-40g fiber/day, so that's almost 160 calories I may need to add from another source.

I think in general the 40/40/20 includes fiber carbs. If you only count "net carbs" you risk overshooting the carb ratio.

I don't care about ratios. I care about total calorie intake for the day.

Going to see what that thread has to offer... thanks

Pure fiber doesn't contain any calories.

here in australia, i dont think they count fiber towards the carb count, because it isnt digested by the body (insoluble fiber anyway)
the laws are different in america, and they have to count them, thats why atkins have invented "net carbs" or "impact carbs"
